Does the browser simply display a black box instead of the video?

I am suspecting your adobe flash player is somehow out-of-date or defective, and needs to be re-installed/upgraded.

Do you have another browser installed? Internet Explorer or Google Chrome? If so, try to play them on one of those.

I don't use Firefox because it sometimes doesn't report the nature of the problem as the other two will report with an error message.

Try going to Youtube.com and seeing if ANY random video will play on Youtube under Firefox.

If not, try updating/re-installing adobe flash player. This site will help you install the correct flash player.

but when I hit play it goes to a black box. I uninstalled Adobe shut down the puter and when it booted back up i installed the new version then booted the puter up again . I did this 3 times and it still doesn't work. Thanks for answering me....

Preferably Google Chrome. It REALLY DOES work better than Firefox in dealing with system errors, giving you specific information about what failed.

Install Google Chrome

Copy and past the link from DU (or from ANY video at Youtube, itself).

See if it works.

Clicking on a video to play that gives you a black box usually means the browser cannot interpret the code from Youtube or whatver source you are accessing, due either to a "blocking" instruction you have given to the browser, (e.g. block all advertisements, etc) or something faulty in the browser itself.

Last option: re-install Firefox from scratch, if you do not wish to try Google Chrome.

when I'm on HULU I get this box from adobe flash player settings... it says local storage

currently using 100kb

I deny.... does this mean anything or do I have a virus?
I do have an IT friend that will be here next week so I can ask him to help me with anything that needs to be done

1 MB is not that much in this day and age.

If you grant 1 MB, you are, for sure, giving more information over to the folks who desire info on your internet connection.

In the final analysis, just have a reliable virus protection software system in place, allow trusted sources like Youtube, Hulu, whatever, to simply ask for what they need, and know that the ultimate defense for anything realy bad is something that can be accomplished without bleeding your bank accounts

Allow nationally trusted sites to install big cookie management software, don't fear all this as long as you are not going to outrageous sites like sex videos or get-rich-quick sites. Hulu and Youtube are reasonable sites, as is DU.

Don't fear you are being punked and exploited if all you want to get to are reasonably popular and reliable sites like Youtube, DU, Hulu.

You probably have nothing to fear with people asking for bigger cookies, as long as those asking are reasonable sites. Firefox probably limited the cookies size to 100KB, and most sites now ask for more. Just give in, do it, let them install their cookies, and you probably will live happily ever after as long as you are not going to very obscure sites. DU, Youtube, and Hulu are not among worst sites. They can be trusted with 1 MB of your computer's ram.
