Touchpad problem. Testing a "solution" from a Search

Every so often this problem happens, comes back: Posting in DU (the only place I post) the touchpad gets unresponsive. I've thought this is because of moisture/sweat on the fingers or perhaps from snacking residue. Washing up and cleaning the touchpad has seemed to work. But the problem is not being able to manage the cursor, trouble getting the cursor to stay on push buttons and when the push buttons ARE enabled with the cursor on them, they don't "push." Not getting the cursor to move where it's wanted, not able to get it out of the typing/message box into the "Post my thread" push button.

A search on "touchpad cursor jumps while typing" got this as the first solution: "Click the Start button> click Control Panel> click Hardware> and then click Mouse. Click the Pointer Options tab, and then do the following: Uncheck the Hide pointer while typing box"

The problem has been going on all day, despite the cleaning up, and I just Applied this solution. Seems to be working?

Yeah, I gotta ask the dumb question first. Next, the driver might be corrupted and needs to be reinstalled.

Touch pads have been known to go bad, but that is rare, and sometimes means they have been abused.

Try this:

I have been plagued in various ways by a touch pad feature that may be your nemesis as well. It's called "tap-to-click". In the "mouse" section of the control panel there should be a tab containing the touch-pad features. Open it and disable "tap-to-click" or whatever your pc calls it.

Best of luck
