tablet advice

We want a tablet for internet based email (primarily gmail), and ebooks. We will not be playing games, nor watching movies, or videos... mostly using the Audobon Feild Guides, Leaf Snap, etc.

What models, size etc. would people here suggest? We cannot afford, and do not want an Ipad- the Kindle seems a little too proprietary-

I've got the original, but I'd recommend checking out the Le Pan II which sells for only about $225.

The Le Pan is Android, has a big screen (9.7&quot , and does all the basic stuff and a lot extra. Even the original came preloaded with ebook software, YouTube, etc. The original sells for around $180 most places. The quality of the image is outstanding.

The only problem I've had was with some fussy WiFi spots that required getting to their own web site before allowing a connection. My Le Pan's Google browser keeps over riding but I consider that more a flaw with the WiFi than with the Le Pan.

If you can get the Field Guides on Android, it would do what you need.

the end. (for now. Their website says that they are working on an Android app, but since it is volunteer they do not have a release date.) Unless you're just talking about using the website as a guide.

Audubon Guides are very available for Android: http://www.audubonguides.com/field-guides/android.html

As far as specific hardware recommendations the field is exploding so fast I have a hard time keeping up with the reviews. http://www.androidpolice.com/topics/reviews/tablet-reviews/ They're a bit Google fanboy, but I enjoy my Nexus devices myself. http://reviews.cnet.com/2733-3126_7-936-5.html doesn't change the outlook by much..
