I would hit the "like" button! Hey, if you have time for one more seemingly stupid question...that video does not seem to be relevant to Win. 7?

The only problem I can see with it is in editing the hosts file 127.0.0.1 needs to at the top but others below it may be there for a reason if you use programs like Spybot Search and Destroy which modifies the hosts file to redirect potentially harmful sites to an address inside your computer and prevent them from doing any damage. I also use Open DNS which replaces the DNS server address with ones that fiter out bad sites. To use Open DNS you select the box the says "use the following DNS server addresses and put 208.67.222.222 in the first box and 208.67.220.220 in the second.

it's a misnomer. google redirect virus is not a virus at all it's adware/spyware. you can reinstall firefox from scratch (just import your bookmarks to chrome first then import them back after) for the quick and dirty, of course. that's what i'd do without thinking twice. but this may not fix it.

don't bother with revo uninstall, try 'iobit uninstaller' and 1st remove *all* the 'toolbars' even if you think you want them. if you don't have the 'ask toolbar' i will be surprised. also uninstall 'yontoo' if it's there.

the way iobit uninstaller works after you do these 'batch uninstalls' don't let each one restart your computer (you'll do that later yourself). instead uninstall them all 1st, *then* let iobit uninstaller run the 'delete leftover items' feature (it will offer, don't worry, just select all when it shows you the crap left over, and hit delete...)

next, if you didn't reinstall firefox go into your 'tools > add-ons' page. start disabling all plugins and extensions like crazy until there's nothing left but microsoft, adobe, google (IF you use 'google voice', and NOT if not...), 'adblock plus', and 'downthemall!' (if you don't have those last 2 i rec them). if you want you can leave java on but on windows you're just nuts if you do.

when you see 'toolbar' or are suspicious, just 'remove' the fucker instead of 'disabling' it.

last but not least: under your 'settings' dialog in firefox go to 'general' tab and reset your homepage to what you want. the adware changes it and that alone will really mess with a noob's head.

hope it works out!
