It installs as a printer - just print to the doPDF printer, it asks for the file name, and voila!

Converts from any app that can print. Been using it for years.

the thing to keep in mind about PDFs is that they are really an extension of a printing format (postscript). so 99.9% of the time you don't have to 'export' to PDF, you simply 'print to PDF'. only place i can think of where you would 'export' to PDF is in a page layout program like adobe indesign and even then you can also print to pdf instead if you want.

* if you're on mac os x you can simply 'print to pdf...' from any 'file' menu, including in MS word. no export necessary. no setup necessary. it's built in.

* if you're on windows you will need to have the virtual printer driver software installed. if you install adobe reader 11 (just say 'NO!!!' to MacAfee) the required software will be installed. chances are it's *already* installed and you just didn't know it. so 1st thing check this: try 'print to file... > PDF' in the 'print...' dialog box instead of to a printer.

* if you're on linux, it's built in. just go to 'print to file.. > PDF'.

I should have provided more info in my request. I was familiar with how to "convert" or print, but couldnt find a decent software. I didnt have anything on my laptop. I have Adobe Reader, but maybe not the latest. Anywayz Manny recommended doPDF and it's working so far.

You can use Kernel for Word to PDF, the best thing about this software is it is easy to use and has the capability to keep the original formatting of the word file intact.

Which has a built in "Publish to PDF" feature. No need for a third party PDF gadget.

CutePDF preserves the formatting of a Word file - and allows the text to be copied and pasted or searched. Some of the programs that covert to PDF create images of the document page rather than preserve the text capabilities.
