Losing network connection
On my laptop I keep getting booted off my network connection. When I look at the modem it is flashing red and the error message says "can't connect to the network" or something like that. It only does this on my Acer laptop and only started doing this about 2 weeks ago. I have another older laptop and have no problems with getting booted off the network. I called AT&T(internet) and the tech said I needed a new modem to the tune of $100. How can one laptop start doing this and not the other. Any help is appreciated.

(1,837 posts)..can you lease a modem from at&t? if so that's the way to go b/c carrier hardware.. specifically firmware.. is changing fast for the better. meaning 'faster'. if you can lease then your carrier will give you a new modem when they make a major upgrade but if you buy you have to keep track on your own and each carrier is different.
a modem does one two things: it (mo)dulates and it (dem)odulates an analog signal. that's all it does and that is a deep and complex factor in the comm system, subject to constant improvement. don't buy the new modem for $100. lease it for a cost of a quad mocha latte grande per month.

(1 post)I think you have problems with with your Network Interface card. Please go and visit a ACER help center with your laptop.

(44,228 posts)easiest thing to do is to disable and enable your wifi adapter.
Open up the "Network and Sharing Center"
Click "Change Adapter Settings" in the menu on left side of screen
Right click your wifi adapter and select "Disable"
Then right click your wifi adapter again and select "Enable"
Should reconnect on it's own and stay connected.
Hope it works for you like it works for me.
