Annoyance on Skype (loud ads), you too ?

I've used Skype for years with good results. I've always used the free version, like most people.

Today, I was talking to someone, and three ads came blaring on and interrupted my call totally. This is what I found at Skype support:

Why are there advertisements for other companies in Skype?

Occasionally, you may see advertisements for other companies in Skype. These advertisements will not disrupt your Skype experience in any way.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Skype, making sure to disable all advanced options that might possibly result in me hearing any more ads. I don't care about SEEING them, but hearing them really sucks.

Am I the only one who's had this issue with Skype ?

And just not update? Not sure it's possible, but i doubt protocols have changed. I am using a 2 year old Skype on my Linux laptop and haven't been forced to update.
