got a virus alert on my iPhone

but I'm not sure it's legit? was driving my phone asleep and when I arrived it displayed an "Apple alert: the last site you visited http xxxxxxx infected you with a Trojan. use the software to remedy and reinstall the latest operating system"
(not verbatim, but the gist of it) and then 2 choices offered
install or cancel ... I chose cancel... the message seemed to originate off my flashlight app?
I've only visited 2 sites today, du and FB ... after cancelling I've had no problems as yet... does that sound like a legitimate alert? never had one before now

that there was an attempt to infect accounts via Facebook by asking folks to accept a fake Jayden Smith as a friend, and that if anyone of your friends accepted it would infect you too. Something like that...

Don't click on any links that your are unsure of... Even "Cancel" will give the nefarious site information.

Software cannot be installed on an iPhone from a website.

The point was to not click or tap ANYTHING, not even "Cancel." That's an important point. Just close the pop-up and then close your browser. I would then restart my phone or computer and run a virus check. If the pop-up won't close (some won't!), then I would immediately shut down my phone or computer, and run a virus check when it is restarted. You can't be "too safe" with your data, even if it's an iPhone. I hope that helped clarify.

I told her to ignore it. I've always read that an iPhone can't get a virus. I will assume that is true until informed otherwise.

You visited http xxxxxxx and it infected you with a Trojan.

Sounds like unsafe sex, to me. I thought Trojans were supposed to protect you from infection.

They want you to install malware that will infect your phone, render it useless or who knows what else. Classic ploy. Hope you don't keep sensitive data on your phone.
