Obamacare horror story debunked by Seattle Times columnist

By George Chidi
November 24, 2013

...In Danny Westneat’s piece “Debunking Obamacare sob story,” the writer checked on the reversal of fortune claimed by Jessica Sanford, a Washington parent of an ADHD-diagnosed child, who had been touted by President Obama last month as an example of the success of the Affordable Care Act because she could obtain insurance for the first time in 15 years.

When Sanford said on a Facebook post that the state had miscalculated her eligibility for a subsidy based on her income and that she was “screwed,” the media pounced, particularly conservative outlets like Fox News and Rush Limbaugh.

However, Westneat’s examination revealed that Sanford’s son qualified for Medicaid coverage at $30 a month, which would have not been available before the ACA. “He has ADHD and, according to Sanford, it costs them $250 a month for prescription drugs alone. Which will now all be covered,” Westneat wrote. While Sanford had originally been quoted for coverage at $169 a month, a bronze-level policy for a 48-year-old woman making $49,000 costs $237 a month, while a silver-level policy costs $313, Westneat added.

“So here’s a family that was totally uninsured for 15 years because it had always cost at least $500 to $600 a month for skimpy policies to cover them both. And what they can get now is full coverage for $30 a month for the son and scantier coverage in the $250 to $300 a month range for the mom. How is that a horror story?”

are in for a hard holiday week, with ice, freezing rain and a lot of snow in the mountains.

But we can see from where I live that there is very good snow in the mountains, they are almost all white, and visible all the way here.

It's been like late winter, as the sun rises and sets with pinks, oranges, golds and purples. All those colors also reflect on the snow on the mountains.

But the trees still have some fall leaves on them anyway, and everywhere there are plenty of fragrant evergreen wreaths for sale. And most people have been burning wood for warmth for over a month now.

Stay warm, sweets:

Life is good!

is only the start. I'm not having the problems I feared with the dogs; I just let them out when they want out, and they bark at the door again when they want to come in. Even when indoors, they 'fight' and quarrel over anything within reach. I can throw them an old rag that isn't even fit for cleaning with, and they'll finish shredding it for me. I don't need a garbage disposal! They even let me know when it's time for a nap by standing up against the side of the baby bed and wagging their tails. Brigid could probably jump in if she wanted, but Molly Maguire's so short she couldn't. And they stick together like glue.

So long as my furkids are happy, so am I.

Oh, if only they could vote!

She had nothing before, thought she was getting wonderfulness pack A but found out it was only wonderfulness pack B.

She never had any wonderfulness at all.

Without knowing the details, I suspected that this would all end up this way.

She has coverage she never ever would have had.

...Who owns a small business (counseling, 1 employee-HIM), who claims he will have to pay $5000
more a year for health insurance for he and his wife than he does now.

Can that be right?

And, I don't know if you saw this or not.. President Obama "feels the spirit of his Mom in Seattle"~ Precious, fresh~

Obama, at fundraiser, calls GOP an 'impediment'

snip//

SEATTLE (AP) — President Barack Obama sounded a nostalgic personal note Sunday night and offered a rare self-assessment while criticizing congressional Republicans as an "impediment" to governing during the start of a West Coast fundraising tour for the Democratic Party.

Obama told donors the sight of Mt. Rainier illuminated by a setting sun was particularly special because it reminded him of his mother, who attended high school in the Seattle area. "I feel the spirit of my mom," he said."

I'm not a particularly ideological person," he said, adding he still is passionate about giving people a fair shake, about the environment, and working for peace and national security. "But I'm pretty pragmatic about how we get there."
