'Don't microwave your pee,' Jacksonville gas station owner's bizarre request

A Southside gas station owner is asking people not to warm urine in the microwave.

"We got sick and tired of people bringing their urine containers,” said Parul Patel, owner of On the Fly convenience store and BP gas station on the corner of Phillips Highway and Shad Road. “They're just random people walking and it's happening every day.”

The people who come in to do it are not customers, Patel said. "They walk in off the street, microwave urine containers then leave."

The gas station is within walking distance of a Quest Diagnostics and a LabCorp. Both companies offer drug testing services and collect urine samples.

1. Does microwaving urine even work to foil drug tests? Is this even a common urban legend?

Inquiring minds want to know... I want to know.

Seriously, I admit to being sheltered/oblivious, but I've never heard of this being a thing.

Also, dear gas station operators, if you're at the point that people are microwaving their urine in your place of business, a f-ing sign isn't going to dissuade them.

3. People supposedly collect urine samples from others who they believe are drug-free.

The samples are then heated in the microwave in order to get them near the temperature where they should be after someone has urinated.

why not tape a closed container of drug-free urine to your body for body temperature a couple of hours before hand?

10. I had a friend who had some sort of contraption to do exactly that

He'd buy powdered urine online, rehydrate it, put it in some sort of hot water bottle with a hose attached, strap it to his leg and use that whenever he had a piss test.

14. The surface of your body is much cooler than the internal temperature.

You would need to get it warmer than having it just taped to your body.

8. They don't give you the sample tube prior to the test.

The person taking the test obtains the urine from a person who is drug-free (whether they pay for it or not is a different story). That person takes the collected urine with them when they are supposed to provide urine. However, most urine tests will show that the sample has been tampered with if the temperature is outside the normal body temperature range. The people are stopping at the store to microwave the provided sample to carry with them to the lab where they use that sample in lieu of providing their own drug-tainted urine.

Of course, this scheme only works if there is nobody actually observing the person urinate. If that person is being monitored for a criminal violation, then there will be a friendly probation officer checking things out.

11. Yeah, some drug screens require observed urination.

That may result in the candidate saying they can't pee with someone watching. That is then recorded as a refusal to submit.

or similar device. If they can slip that through, the urine only needs to be warm.
