Woman’s breast implants give new meaning to drug bust
It wasn’t the biggest drug bust of all time, but perhaps one of the most interesting.
A Panamanian woman was arrested in Spain and accused of smuggling cocaine in her recently acquired breast implants.
Spanish authorities said they arrested the woman trying to smuggle cocaine through the Barcelona airport, according to the Guardian and other news outlets. The woman was a passenger on a flight coming in from Colombia.
“The interior ministry said on Wednesday border police had noticed fresh scars and blood-stained gauze on the woman’s chest and pale patches beneath her skin. The woman said she had recently had breast implant surgery.
Officers were suspicious and sent her to a local hospital where the implants were removed and found to contain cocaine, the ministry added.”

Perhaps one day we’ll hear more about why this woman would take such a risk to her life. Perhaps others have tried and died without authorities ever learning of the scheme, such as the risks faced by so-called “swallowers,” who traffic in heroin by swallowing pellets and carrying them in their stomachs. One breaks – and they’re dead of an overdose.
