Colorado man ticketed for tying his cat to a rock after it refused to go jogging

Well, at least he didn't tie it to the roof of his car.

Police in Lafayette, Colo., have ticketed a man who is accused of tying his cat to a rock after the feline refused to go jogging.

Sgt. Fred Palmer says 19-year-old Seth Franco brought his cat on a leash to the path around Waneka Lake Park on Wednesday, but the cat was unable to keep up.

According to the Boulder Daily Camera ( http://bit.ly/ysr3qe), witnesses told police that Franco secured the cat's leash to a rock while he finished his run. A passer-by called police.

Franco was ticketed on suspicion of "domestic animal cruel treatment," a municipal offense.

including fox, coyotes, bear, and mountain lions, not to mention hawks, eagles, and turkey buzzards. In fact, a human fatality from mountain lion attack while jogging occured in Boulder in 1991 and a serious mauling in 2006. Ignoring for a moment the crazy aspects of jogging with one's cat or tethering a domestic cat outside on a running path...One doesn't tie an obvious animal of prey out like that where predators are not rare.

The ticket will likely serve only as a warning. As well it should.

have small lungs in comparison to dogs. One can jog with a dog because dogs are long distance runners, as are we. However, to expect your cat to keep up with you is about as intelligent as expecting your goldfish to join you for laps at the local pool. Silly 19 year old boy.
