Former U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown’s fraud trial set for late April

Both sides of former U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown’s fraud trial told a federal judge Wednesday they’re ready to face a jury before the end of April.

“This is the last time we’ll see each other until we start the trial,” U.S. District Judge Timothy Corrigan said after quizzing attorneys about the time they’ll need and arrangements for witnesses they’ll call.

Opening statements are scheduled for April 26, with the trial estimated to last about two and a half weeks. Jury selection begins April 24.

Ahead of a hearing Wednesday, the 12-term congresswoman posted herself inside an ice cream truck in Hemming Park and handed out sweets to people crossing the park the federal courthouse faces.
