Related: About this forumDemocratic Primary is the process of the Democratic Party selecting its candidates
It is the process of the party, not the state, selecting its candidates for the General Election.
The party could just hold a convention without giving the larger population of "The Democratic Party" a vote.
If you want to vote in the Democratic Party Primary, you should have joined the party by registering as a Democrat by the deadline, and according to the RULES which were set out long before this contest date was set.
If BS can't win, cheat!
Unbelievable how the BS campaign is trying to corrupt this election process because so many of them were too busy on-line to register properly.

(1,359 posts)their own ballots. I'm sure that we'll see arguments about taxpayer dollars being spent on closed primaries, but any party could just as easily set up their own system and conduct it however they want. And taxpayers would have to pay for that too, so it's all still equal.
No one is being "disenfranchised" at all. If anything, people disenfranchise themselves by not participating!

(4,035 posts)is when they are physically or economically hindered from voting in their own party's nomination process. That means caucuses, which disenfranchise party members who cannot physically attend them, or are unable to vote because of work duty or family duty. That means poll taxes in the form of IDs that cost money to get in order to vote in your party's nomination process.
Notice that it is NOT disenfranchisement if you aren't allowed to vote in the nomination process of a party in which you are not a member. If you are registered as and Independent, you are totally free to vote in the Independent nomination process. If you aren't registered with a party, you are totally free to register according to your chosen party's rules in your state, and then you can participate in the next nomination election in which you are eligible to vote. (Did you know that unaffiliated NY voters can still vote in the primary? Not the Presidential primary of '16, of course, they're 3 weeks late for that, but there's another primary in June for Congressional seats, and in September for local and state elections.)

(12,395 posts)He asked the question, "When will Bernie Sanders actually be joining the Democratic Party?". Now that is an excellent question..... It does not appear Sanders is actually a Democrat at all based on his language, behavior and lack of any Party bonding.

(12,395 posts)I find Sanders as evil and selfish as the republicans. This kindness we extended, the leap of faith, trust in Sanders, giving him an opportunity... Well, he appears to of elected to screw over his Host.

(16,104 posts)First, the black vote in the south.
Then, Democratic Party and candidate campaign fund raising.
Now, closed party primaries.
It is a blatant manipulation and exploitation of Bernie supporters to not accept the Democratic primary voting results. Keep on hoping, keep on sending money. Disgusting.

(50,931 posts)Here in Indiana, the parties conduct a state convention to select their nominee for Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and Superintendent of Public Instruction. Their names will not be on the primary ballot.
In off year elections other elected positions are also selected at a state convention.
