A friend called me today.

We don't live far from Madison, and he wanted us to go with him to see Bernie. If he had called earlier, I would have postponed my doctor's visit and gone with him. I would have cheered for Bernie, and behaved well, even though I am not a supporter.

BTW, I had an invasive procedure to my bladder, and they gave me an antibiotic. Now I feel icky, and I was feeling all right before. Antibiotics mess with my guts. (My bladder has a clean bill of health).

My friend was very excited about seeing Bernie. This guy is a veteran activist and a realist. He is a disabled air force veteran. He worked with us to reelect Obama, and we were rewarded with tickets to McCormick Place on election night. It was a great evening. He worked with us to reelect Quinn, who lost by such a slim margin. We have worked with him on Congressional elections and county board elections. He is a precinct committeeman now, too.

I don't know if he was just excited about the event, or if he now supports Bernie. He supported HRC the last time we spoke.

I will have to find out what he is thinking. If he has changed his mind, he is the only one of my activist friends who has done so. I will respect his choices, because I know he will work hard for the nominee, like any other good Democrat.

I have an adult daughter who lives in Burlington VT. She loves Bernie, but she is supporting Clinton.

Many in GD and GD-P would have us believe that simply isn't possible.

Do you mind if I ask what sort of activism your friends do?

I am a foot soldier.

I have held various offices in the county party, from precinct committeeman to chair. My friends do the same. They work as county chairmen, treasurers, secretaries, election judges, etc. Some of them hold state and local offices. I have been involved in Democratic politics for my entire life. I have a variety of contacts.

Those of us who can do volunteer work. (Some elected people and people who work for state agencies have to be very careful to campaign on their own time). We raise funds, walk in parades, knock on doors, phone bank, whatever it takes. I will be working for whatever campaign needs me. I am sure I will be doing some things for Clinton, and possibly a local Congressional candidate.

We are going to Democrat day in Springfield IL. My husband and I will find out what needs to be done. We also need to listen. We are fighting a very bad governor, who won by a narrow margin (Rauner). Madigan and our Democratic majority are the only ones standing between Rauner and his strong willingness to turn this state into a right wing sewer. Madigan will be there, and Durbin. So will most of the Illinois elected Democrats and the prospective candidates. We need to go to the brunch and listen to the speakers. We need to go to the bars, the cookouts, and the places where little knots of people just talk.

Politics gets into one's blood. It is an incurable disease.

I will let you know what I hear there.

7. You're not the only one to have that thought.

Some of those attending will come away undecided. Some will come away convinced Sanders isn't what we need in a president. And some will be there simply because he's a novelty. As the shine wears off, he will probably draw smaller crowds with a greater percentage of supporters and fewer window shoppers.
