Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forumSo what is the take away from this primary...
-Claiming the most qualified person, who is a woman, in the election, hell, in a long time, is unqualified....because of someones mythical standards
-Having someone speaking for you calling the only woman in the race a Democratic whore maybe doesn't go over so well
-Having your supporters thinking that throwing money at the only woman in the race wouldn't come off a bit sexist.
-You and your supporters telling the African American community that they are just to dumb to "Feel the Bern," because I guess they don't have the interwebs and TVs.
The soul of the Democratic party is the African American female voter...and they told you...
And to act like those of us who were offended that we were just too sensitive...Hmmmmm
Oh, and another thing...I would believe them on this whole close primary thing being unfair if they would have been screaming at the rafters in all the other closed elections that have come before.
And here ends my take away from NY.
Love everyone here, and because of you, I haven't lost my mind

Surya Gayatri
(15,445 posts)logical that the decision should have been unanimous to LEAVE.
It's in quotes and block "excerpt". Some people can't read.
Can you post here or PM me a cut and paste of the results--assuming you were on the jury?
Thanks.

(60,335 posts)They Bull Shit they pulled because they either too lazy to understand the rules of the process in their own state or were too stubborn to change their registration to Democrat because they didn't want to be "part of the establishment" is on them.
It's not on New York, it's not on the Democratic Party and it is not on Hillary Clinton.
If you want the rules changed, you do it before the deadlines and definitely before the day of the election. It was just another in the long line of political stunts pulled by an outsider who is doing nothing to get any other Democrat elected.

(20,450 posts)Now, it's not our fault that the lazy ass "Independents" and others didn't do their homework. If they wanted to upset the Democratic Party process, then they should have registered as Democrats, voted for B.S., and go home.
They can't just walk into the Democratic Party when it has it own rules and complain and whine about why they weren't invited. FOH!

(1,788 posts)meet the minimum requirements...damn, they did not want to listen. "Everyone should be able to vote!!!!!!!11!!!" Many moons ago we moved. I need to register to vote and kept putting it off....so much so that I couldn't. I didn't blame the Army for moving us, I didn't blame my husband for his job, and I didn't blame the state for not letting me be their special little snowflake...I blamed myself for not getting my act together. And that was the Gore/Bush election. And I'm still mad at myself. They all need to grow up and realize that no matter how much it sucks there are rules.

(20,450 posts)I moved to Maryland after living in D.C. for a time. When I got here in 2000, I went to vote in the Democratic Party primary:
Me: I'm here to vote.
Poll official: I don't have your name, address, or date of birth listed.
Me (annoyed and exasperated): I've been voting since I could and I'm registered. Here's my card.
Poll official: Uhhhh...you're not a registered Democrat. You are Unaffiliated.
I've never been so embarrassed, especially since I was working on my doctorate in political science. I totally forgot that I had been voting for some Democrats and Green Party candidates in the General Election but that I couldn't vote in the primaries. However, I should have done the work to understand that MD has a closed primary, but in my anger and haste, I had forgotten. But that's still no excuse. It was MY responsibility and I had to accept that I could not vote in the primary.
I think a lot of these so-called Independents are moved by passion and anger. And because they can't get their way, instead of understanding and accepting the rules, it's always some conspiracy for them. NO! There's no conspiracy. There are RULES! If you want to participate, you have to follow those rules.

(1,788 posts)When I was their age I was an independent, it wasn't necessarily for the cool factor, it was because the dems were pissing me off...it was 1984 and on. Then I met my grandfather-in-law. He was big in the republican party, getting people elected, in our state. He said if you don't like the party, join it and help change it. Yeah, the old man was right. You can't bitch about something you don't belong to.

Democratic nominee. But I just wanted to be contrarian; I didn't like Gore and didn't like Clinton.
After I grew up, I began to think about this more. Nader essentially got kicked out of the Green Party due to accusations that he never helped any down ticket candidates. He didn't raise money for those candidates; or, he didn't vigorously work for those candidates. The Greens saw the writing on the wall and basically kicked him out. It was all about him and HIS so-called revolution. He could have joined the Democratic Party a long time ago and rebuilt it from the bottom up rather than merely trashing the party.
Of all the things that I dislike about Sanders, I hold steadfast to my argument: If he wanted the black vote, he should have done what the Clintons had done--spent many decades building those relationships over time. Not demanding the black vote because he marched in the 60s and got arrested. That's a special kind of self-entitlement and arrogance that I've rarely witnessed...well, not since Ralph Nader.

(1,788 posts)He went for the big guns, instead of building up. I use to like him a lot, but he's a purist also, and it drives me a bit nuts. Life is compromises, and you hope you do the right thing...and at times you get it very, very wrong. When you don't have to challenge yourself and work with others, you don't take risks. That's just not life.
It does seem that Sanders ran away from his 60's start. Not only what you said, but the fact that he would not stand up to his bernie bros when it came to John Lewis. He knew damn well what was going on and he couldn't be bothered...that seems to be a lot of his problem. He likes the big idea, his purity, but not the crappy work that goes with it. I know for me when he doubled down on the PP "establishment" shit, it made me start thinking that women's issues just wasn't that important. All these things are important and they take more than a vote and a pic getting arrested before I was born...and that was a long time ago.

I don't think it's merely coincidence that white men comprise Sanders' base of support. I would even add to that a good number of black men, too. There's not a care at all about race or gender. Well, at the very least, those issues come last. "Economic inequality" is everything.

Someone at MSNBC got Bernie's campaign manager to stand in front of a map and do the remaining delegate math.
It... didn't go well for him.

(297,289 posts)I'm looking forward to the pundits changing their tune on Hillary. On Morning Joe this morning, they were saying that the last 2 weeks of negative attacks have only hurt BS, not Hillary. Of course, only NOW will they admit it. Mika looked like she wanted to argue the point, but she really couldn't. She tried to correct them by saying that the attacks weren't personal, that they were "issue-based" but she was clearly in the minority. HAH

(297,289 posts)to drag her down. they still want that horse race and BS is still hustling his fans.
they actually said the last two weeks of negative attacks from BS on Hillary have only hurt BS?! WoW.. good!
I was happily surprised.
You're right, though...I'm not going to expect much out of them because they definitely don't want to wrap the race up yet (even though it is, for all intents and purposes, wrapped up)!

(1,788 posts)Women, and especially AA women have had to put up with so much crap from our society. To see these people pile on....oh no, that's not cool. What's funny, hearing some of the language to they use against Hillary, it might do them some good to sit and listen instead of yelling at everyone...we women can hear them....

These people are braindead if they think they can just waltz into the Democratic Party, spew their veiled racism, and expect to win.

(1,788 posts)I listen to her show via podcast, I live overseas, so the easiest way for me...and I just stood there dumbfound. These people are clueless. I was born and raised in Iowa, you can't get much whiter than that, and I'm thinking, as a kid, I knew better than to be that way....and that was in the 70's...to think that AAs are not worth the effort, women only vote with their girly bits...I use to like him, now my opinion has so changed, and once lost, it's hard to get it back.

(20,450 posts)People here at DU will look at the number of "hides" I have and that I've been on several timeouts and suspensions. But what they won't admit is that despite their disdain for me, I and many other POC DUers have been trying to warn DUers about their arrogance. We tried to warn them that alienating black voters, talking down to them, ridiculing them, won't help their cause. They certainly have not helped Sanders, and he and his campaign, haven't helped him, either. We keep trying to tell people this, but it seems that they won't listen. But HRC is listening. She learned from her mistakes in 2008 and is now reaping the rewards by embracing black women. Sanders's arrogance has cost him when he had an opportunity to build relationships with the black community, he shunned it. And he will pay a price.
Black women have always carried the Democratic Party. We have always been the most politically active segment of the population. I'm thinking that the roots of the social and political activism is the Black Church where black women would help organize voting drives and other political events.
But I also believe that because black women were the last to receive full citizenship rights, they know what it means to be disenfranchised. When women got the right to vote in 1920, it was white women. When black men achieved the vote, black women were excluded. So it is due to the very fact that black women have been most disenfranchised that they tend to embrace the vote; they tend to be very well versed on the issues, and they also tend to be very enthusiastic supporters.
I remember it being black women who finally convinced their husbands to support Barack Obama after Iowa and going into South Carolina, even when they were worried about Obama's safety. Oprah, for instance, announced her support for the president on her show which hurt ratings, but also helped black women learn more about Obama and ultimately support him too.
