(81,512 posts)I went to the home page this morning, as I always do after I wake up and start my day, and CRIMINY - it's Bernie, Bernie, Bernie, Bernie, Bernie, Bernie...
At least three posts in the Greatest list and as for the Trending Now list, it's now DOWN to three out of five. When I first woke up, ALL FIVE were Bernie threads. Good Grief, we're being freakin' suffocated.
Guess I'll have to hang out here more. Is this the Bernie Sanders Underground now? I mean - I do like Bernie Sanders, and I could support him if he beats Hillary to the nomination. But as it stands, and until further notice (like that aforementioned speculative outcome), I'm for Hillary! And I think SHE'S gonna go all the way. All the way to the nomination AND all the way to the White House.
And when that happens I fully intend NOT to gloat or jam it down the throats of the Bernie Sanders people. Sadly, I would doubt that they'd return the favor and be graceful in their victory if it goes the other way. They'd probably be dancing on Hillary's grave.
Don't get me wrong - I appreciate that they have a candidate they can be really enthusiastic about. That's very cool. BUT SO DO I, DAMMIT!!!!!! I just seriously don't think most of Kitchen Table America and Joe/Jane Sixpack America will go for a socialist. I don't think America at large is ready to go that far. Socialist-ANYTHING has been too securely branded as bad to be able to break through that yet. Hell, we're just getting STARTED rehabilitating the word and the idea and the concept of "Liberal." We're just now GETTING STARTED on that. To expect most voters to make that big leap - to be okay with, and embrace, a self-proclaimed socialist - is probably too big an ask at this point. We've had to drag most of 'em kicking and screaming into the 21st Century on so many urgent other things like affordable health care and marriage equality and increased minimum wage - even stuff THEY agree are good things they want and need. SHIT! Just think of all the protest signs you've seen at teabagger rallies that read "Don't Touch My Medicare!" THAT is Socialism forcryingoutloud. Medicare is a kind of socialism. I myself have no problem with it whatsoever. And they all welcome it in forms like Medicare and Social Security. But man, slap the word "socialist" on it and they'll go total "TILT!" They'll all go "Benghazi!"
I just don't think Bernie Sanders is gonna go the distance the way the Bernie troops do. Even with his good ideas. I'm for Hillary. Besides - it's high time we had a woman in the Oval Office. Fuck. If we can have a frickin' carly fiorina as a corporate CEO forcryingoutloud, we can CERTAINLY have a certified and manifestly competent woman as Chief Executive of the US. With Hillary having arrived on the national stage, we finally have a woman who's realistically and fully up to the job. It's just TIME, dammit.
