I have a theory about Jane and those tax returns.

Last edited Thu Apr 28, 2016, 10:15 AM - Edit history (2)

When Jane was president of Burlington College, she launched a million dollar expansion campaign and it failed. As a result, the college went deeply in debt. She was fired by the Board of Trustees.

Jane received a $200,000 severance pay. In corporate America, they call it a golden parachute. That was huge money in a college that was hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. The college is still struggling to survive.

That payoff is in their income tax returns.

Update: The point has been made that $200,000 isn't that much money given the millions paid to fired corporate CEOs. However, Burlington College is very small. It consists of one large three story building with less than 300 students. Two years ago the school's accrediting agency put BC on probation because of its financial situation. Last February the estate of a donor who gave the school $70,000 for scholarships sued the school alleging that the school used the money to pay bills. So in this context, $200,000 is a lot of money, but I think that Bernie and Jane are much more concerned about the principle of the situation.

Sermonizing about the poor while accepting $200,000 from a school that was struggling to survive.

The 2014 incomplete release was also when they were preparing for a presidential run.

This is not transparency.

6. Isn't it irritating, Cha? The blatant hypocrisy?

The Sanders campaign wants to hold Hillary to a singular higher standard, but won't meet the most basic common standard themselves.

Thanks to Hillary's recent wins, he won't have to release those returns. Everybody happy.

7. IMHO, there HAS to be more than this. There is nothing shameful about a severance package.

And $200K is tiny compared to the millions in golden parachutes that corp. CEOs receive, even when they fail.

one of the self-described "poorest Senators" is a multi-millionaire.

It's about hypocrisy.

...and her fancy accounting tricks to get the money to buy land the school could not afford, for a huge expansion that would then have to attract lots of new students from somewhere.

Burlington College episode where she showed an abysmal sense of how finance works. Yet, she does the family's taxes? OK, with TurboTax, it doesn't take a genius. But still? And she insists that they've requested no filing extension for 2015. Does she even realize that the filing deadline was last week?

And Bernie's campaign is STILL in trouble with the FEC!

Not only do I have trouble figuring out how financing Bernie's pie-in-the-sky promises for our nation would work ... I find his approach to his own and his campaign's finances laughable. At best.

We may really have dodged a bullet.

18. Hillary has been so good about not going after him

His reputation is only tarnished by the missteps he has campaigned on. She hasn't exposed him or his questionable history at all. The trainwreck of his first 40 years of life, save for one photo op, is virtually unknown. His lousy history with all the people he has worked with going back to since forever. Janes's mishandling of the most routine finances and rumors of committing FRAUD at Burlington are pretty well-known to the community there. The GOP would have a field day.

Do the Sanderstans not realize Hillary has all this info and more? And, that she has protected him the entire time even though he constantly accused her of corruption with no evidence? He should bow out gracefully and seriously thank her for not ruining what little legitimacy he has left.

I've taking a good look at his biography, and based on that alone, Bernie is unelectable, once the Republicans are done publicizing it. Good to know that it all will not happen.

21. Totally agree. He has touted his restraint in going after HRC, but she has been far more restrained.

He has many weaknesses that the GOP would have gone after in the general.
