Hillary Clinton
Related: About this forumSome fascinating numbers from the new PPP poll
Just for giggles, looking at how the numbers break via ideology.
Hillary 57% overall support
64% identifying at very liberal
58% identifying as liberal
59% identifying as moderate
37% identifying as somewhat conservative
27% identifying as very conservative
Sanders 22% overall support
26% identifying at very liberal
19% identifying as liberal
16% identifying as moderate
31% identifying as somewhat conservative
42% identifying as very conservative
Not only is she +35 overall, she's +38 with very liberal and +39 with liberal.
That's going to hurt some feelings.

Sanders is an Independent. He has no true loyalty to any Party, therefore...

(10,893 posts)there's also his vote against closing GITMO a few years back, his unwavering support for Israel, and his stance on drones (a few policies that some of his supporters happen to have disparaged Pres. Obama on while giving him a pass). BS has been portrayed as the standard-bearer for everything progressive, but it looks like even he has some stances to move leftward on.

Just how does that connect with a social progressive bunch?
What is Bernie saying that brings 42% "Very Conservative" into his orbit? That is a high number.
OTH, so much for Hillary's poll numbers suddenly "tanking" as we read & heard all over the media yesterday.
Must have polled the 42% of Bernie's very conservative supporters.
Very encouraging & thanks for posting this in the HILLARY GROUP.
So she never really "tanked" after all. Oh that silly MSM.

I saved a link of a conservative GOP web site in my state that says they are supporting Sanders to keep HRC out of the general, as BS will be easier to beat.
They cite a former foray named 'Operation Chaos' as their method to discrupt Democratic primaries. They urged their folks to send money to Bernie.
Maybe they are the demographic being polled?

(133 posts)Here's a link to the PPP report (opens a 108-page PDF document):
http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/2015/PPP_Release_National_72215.pdf
I found the original post a little confusing in the way the numbers are presented. If it helps, here's a slightly different breakdown showing the first choices of those expected to vote in Democratic primaries:
Overall: 57% prefer Clinton versus 22% Sanders.
Very liberal: 64 Clinton / 26 Sanders
Liberal: 58 Clinton / 19 Sanders
Moderate: 59 Clinton / 16 Sanders
Somewhat conservative: 37 Clinton / 31 Sanders
Very conservative: 27 Clinton / 42 Sanders
What I suspect the last line means is that conservatives tend to be aware of Hillary Clinton and a lot of them are convinced she's evil incarnate, not that very conservative voters love Bernie Sanders.
Incidentally, every candidate of both parties is underwater on favorability.
Rather amusingly, PPP shows separate favorability ratings for Trump and Trump's hair. (His hair rates 12/49/39, versus 29/60/11 for Trump himself.)

(81,466 posts)"Very liberal" 64% to 26%. Okay, got that, too.
"Liberal" 58% to 19%... got THAT.
"Moderate" 59% to 16%... quite a margin there as well.
"Very conservative" - what's this? 27% for her - and FORTY-TWO percent for him?????? Ouch!
There is one outlier - the "somewhat conservatives" do break for her a little more than for him, 37%-31%, so you can't win 'em all. But out of six metrics, she outdoes him in five. And rather decisively, at that.
Just looking at the numbers. That's all.

2. A political philosophy or attitude that emphasizes respect for traditional institutions and opposes the attempt to achieve social change though legislation or publicly funded programs.

(9,070 posts)Remember, weeks ago I stated on DU that Bernie would not appeal to a lot of minorities and immigrants. That was before Netroots.
I think that there's a subset of Bernie supporters that I would call "Archie Bunkers". They are usually white, don't identify with the Tea Party, love guns, don't really think a woman should be President, and hate Wall Street. They don't particularly care about Party affiliation, but might think of themselves as "conservative". I think there are a number of those folks in the west and red states. Some might attend rallies. They are not particularly good at introspection, may work in a blue collar job, and like Bernie's emotional personality. They don't like or identify with Rick Perry, Rubio, or much of the Clown Car.
I think the poll is picking up on that subset.
