(99,710 posts)I have no problem with socialism in principle but the term is so amorphous I need to know what the person using it thinks it means. I do have a huge problem with folks who want to impose it on the people without their consent.

(27,451 posts)Sanders won't be his opponent. Besides, so many Sanders supporters are saying they'll vote for Trump.
Kind of a "The enemy of my enmity is your friend."

Let me preface my remarks by saying the Supers aren't going to overturn the will of the people. However with Trump and the GOP machine attacking Hillary and leaving Bernie alone he is going to poll better. That's just common sense. In the minds of him and his supporters he and they believe it will sway the Supers. They are much more sophisticated.
He has hardly had a glove laid on him.

(25,471 posts)She's running against two people right now, Sanders and Trump. Sanders hasn't been vetted in any meaningful way and the bitter Bernie backers are no doubt voting for Trump in some of these polls if Bernie isn't an option. Once he drops out and endorses Hillary, then we can worry about the polls.
The argument that it's going to somehow sway the Supers is, frankly, nuts, but so is their reasoning for a lot of other things. First, the Supers all know that this race is over, and second, he's been attacking them for months. I'm sure they're in a big hurry to jump ship, but not the direction he thinks.

(99,710 posts)That's because Hillary hasn't created an atmosphere where her supporters hate Bernie.

(25,471 posts)That's kind of what Democrats do. Support other Democrats over Republicans, even ones who are only Dems of convenience. Partly, because we understand math. Ben Nelson annoyed the hell out of me (well, everyone), but he was still better than the complete nutjobs he was running against, like Ricketts, who is now governor and proving to everyone what a tool he is.
It's also because we live in the real world, where even Sanders at his very worst is light-years better than Trump at his best. It's not complicated.

(60,336 posts)The vindictive path that Bernie Sanders is taking plays right into Trump's playbook. It couldn't be better for Trump as BS feeds the hate machine that call themselves his supporters.

(4,640 posts)If Bernie was his opponent, he'd win. The RW attack machine would go full out, and Bernie would be done in a matter of days.
He can't do that to Hillary, because the RW attack machine has been going after her for over 25 years already, and it hasn't worked.

(50,560 posts)At a rally in Cleveland, Trump came right out and called Sanders a communist.

I think it's happened a few other times as well...he calls Bernie a communist and Hillary crooked and an enabler of her husband's adultery...which is rich, coming from a guy who has committed acts of adultery all by himself, and who's in an industry where dealing with the Mafia is a daily occurrence.

(15,438 posts)And yes, Sanders has made himself to be the enemy of Hillary Clinton, democracy (no matter what he screeches at his rallies), and the Democratic Party while pretending to be a liberal or socialist or whatever he's calling himself these days. And Dishonest-Donald is a-ok with that.
