10. This is like the differences between Lincoln and Davis

While a good military man and highly intelligent and passionately devoted to his cause, Jefferson Davis had a fragile ego. Some of his decisions appeared to have been motivated more by personal like or dislike of an individual than by any strategic reason, and his course, once set upon, was seldom open to a change, whether it be a military objective or a political one. As a result, some of his promotions and removal of individual leaders had direct and dire consequences for the Confederate cause. Also, his inability to deal with individual state leaders led to supply and reinforcement problems which hurt the South. Some of these problems can be assigned to the fear of a strong central government in the Confederacy, but much of it can also be attributed to Davis’ own intractable personality.

On the other hand, Abraham Lincoln was a masterful diplomat, prepared to overlook personal differences, for the good of the Union. He surrounded himself with people of the highest ability that he could find regardless of their personal agreement with himself or his policies. He somehow managed to successfully run an administration composed of a cabinet who agreed on very little, except their own individual personal superiority over himself. His policies were endlessly fluid and open to adaptability to circumstances that presented themselves throughout the war.

Sanders is very much like Davis, and Hillary is like Lincoln, which is why Sanders/Davis lost and Hillary/Lincoln won.

Five years ago, I had to do an essay for college about why the South lost the Civil War. That's one of the factors from my research.
