Democrats facing tough elections have been running away from Obamacare in their campaigns almost since the law was passed, but Hillary Rodham Clinton is taking a different approach. She is embracing it.
On the campaign trail, Clinton is leaning into the Affordable Care Act, touting the health insurance mandate as a signature achievement of Democrats as the law about which the public remains deeply divided has become firmly embedded in the nation's healthcare system and is delivering sweeping new benefits to millions of voters.
On Tuesday, Clinton will unveil a plan to expand the law's reach with a proposal to force down the prices of prescription drugs. She will call for new federal rules to cap what consumers are forced to pay out of pocket for medicines, and she would allow the federal government to negotiate directly with drug makers to secure lower drug costs for seniors on Medicare.
"I want to do more to bring down the costs for families," Clinton said at a rally here, where she previewed the plan. "It is disgraceful.... Medications for a lot of diseases are going up to thousands of dollars a month."
The plan would allow Americans to buy prescription drugs abroad, where prices are often lower; prohibit drug companies from writing off the cost of advertising; and limit profits the companies can make from drugs developed with the help of federal research subsidies. It would also boost spending at the Food and Drug Administration so prescription drugs could be approved for sale more quickly....................

(2,975 posts)the rest sounds good, but the "would also boost spending at the Food and Drug Administration so prescription drugs could be approved for sale more quickly" smells like more drug ads, more 'WERE YOU PRESCRIBED....PLEASE CALL THIS ATTORNEY FOR THE CLASS ACTION SUIT' and more re purposed medicine patents.

(30,058 posts)I do not see anything there which says the drugs will be "rushed" through the process, just more people to do the work. Jobs for Americans.

(2,975 posts)The law of unintended consequences seems to rule the day with pharma though.
I wasn't calling out rush like it's predisposed to happen, but with profit uber alles I'm skeptical. That's allowed innit? Or is the hillary group only for unquestioning true believers?

Remember that? Before we all started sniping at eachother? Nothing more TKABT, we don't all have to have an election angle on every opinion.

Hillary Clinton taking on drug industry
She is unveiling a plan to drive down the cost of prescriptions.

Hillary Clinton will launch a broadside against the pharmaceutical industry on Tuesday, rolling out an aggressive plan to drive down prescription drug costs, a populist health care issue largely unconnected with Obamacare that Democrats want to position front and center in 2016.
At a campaign event in Iowa, Clinton will unveil a set of proposals that her campaign says will save well over $100 billion over 10 years taking those savings mostly from the drug industry but targeting insurers as well.
In a speeches in Louisiana and Arkansas on Monday, Clinton defended Obamacare, urged states to expand Medicaid and said it was time for Republicans to stop vowing to repeal a law that's covering millions. She also briefly previewed her forthcoming salvo on drug costs.
It is time to deal with skyrocketing out-of-pocket costs and runaway prescription drug prices, she said. She referred to a Sunday New York Times report on how a 62-year-old medicine jumped from $13.50 a pill to $750 after a company bought it last month. She added: Nobody in America should have to choose between buying their medicine and paying their rent.

(30,058 posts)for health care in the US, just as one of our favorite of Social Security and Medicare, there have been changes and improvements over the years, this too can be improved. She is talking about issues important to us. She was listening in her early campaign stops.

(70,299 posts)Hillary Clinton will announce a detailed plan to reduce the cost of prescription drugs and build on President Obamas Affordable Care Act, as she seeks to head off a strong primary challenge from liberal Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Clinton will reveal her plan on Tuesday in Iowa, where Sanders is edging her out in some recent polls. Her proposals would more tightly regulate pharmaceutical companies and aim to significantly reduce drug costs, particularly for seniors.
Under the plan, monthly out-of-pocket costs for all patients would be limited at $250 per month for individuals, which her campaign said would help up to one million Americans. She would also require pharmaceutical companies to pay higher rebates to Medicare in exchange for the federal program insuring prescriptions drugs, a measure her campaign says would save the program $100 billion.

And, that's what ACA was set up for.. a good Foundation and she's very aware of that.
This is either when ACA was passed or it was upheld by SCOTUS the first time.. sorry, I don't know which.
She will make it better.. POTUS 44 and POTUS 45..
