Hillary Clinton: "Sanders isn't tough enough on guns"snip//
In the wake of the deadly college shooting in Oregon, said at a town hall in Keene, New Hampshire, that she was open to gun buyback programs, but did not endorse them.
"I think it would be worth considering doing it on the national level if that could be arranged," she said in response to a question about Australia's nationwide buyback initiative that began in 1996.
That was enough to agitate the NRA, a powerful force in Washington that has successively suffocated recent attempts to limit gun ownership or manufacturing.
"This validates what the NRA has said all along. The real goal of gun control supporters is gun confiscation," Chris Cox, executive director of the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action, said in a statement Friday. "Hillary Clinton's extreme views are completely out of touch with the American people."

(297,503 posts)President Obama supports Australian gun laws...
Heres the deal with the Australian gun control law that Obama is talking about
Shannon Stapleton / Reuters
In an interview with comedian Marc Maron that aired Monday, President Obama cited Australia's gun laws as an example the United States should follow. Australia established strict gun control in response to a massacre in Tasmania that left 35 people dead in 1996. Since then, Australia hasn't witnessed any mass shootings.
"It was just so shocking the entire country said, Well, were going to completely change our gun laws, and they did. And it hasnt happened since," Obama said, discussing the shooting deaths of nine people at a historic black church in Charleston last week.
A version of this story originally appeared in August 2012, after the fatal shooting of moviegoers in Aurora, Colo. The original author, Dylan Matthews, previously worked at The Post.
John Howard, who served as prime minister of Australia from 1996 to 2007, is no one's idea of a left-wing politician. He was one of George W. Bush's closest allies, backing the Iraq war, and took a hard line domestically against increased immigration and union organizing.
But one of Howard's other lasting legacies is Australia's gun control regime. The law banned semi-automatic and automatic rifles and shotguns. It also instituted a mandatory buy-back program for newly banned weapons.
In the summer of 2012, after a gunman killed people at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., using several weapons including an assault rifle, Howard called on the U.S. to follow Australia's lead, writing in the Melbourne daily The Age:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonkblog/wp/2015/06/23/what-happened-after-australia-banned-lots-of-guns-after-a-massacre/
Australia's murder and suicide rate has fallen since 1996.

REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Senator Sanders favors a two state solution and has been an outspoken critic of Israel. Accusing him of not being pro Palestine because he's Jewish is Anti-Semitic. DU is better than this, please hide.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sun Oct 18, 2015, 12:16 AM, and the Jury voted 2-5 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I think the alerter misunderstood the post they alerted on.
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Stupid alert. The post did not say Sanders opposes a two state solution because he is Jewish. This appears to be alert stalking by a Sanders supporter in the Hillary group.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: not a good alert IMHO
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(51,644 posts)As the word "buy" indicates, you get money for your gun and it would be voluntary.
There have been very successful buy backs in the L.A. area, and the LA PD supported them. It is just bizarre that the NRA would oppose that. Apparently their gun love makes them apoplectic at the thought of all those guns bought at those buy backs being destroyed. They are even trying to pass laws to prevent guns from buy backs being destroyed, which of course defeats the purpose of a buy back.
I could not be prouder of Hillary for her brave stand on this issue.
