Hillary Clinton Gets Backing of Major Union of Government Workers
"A major union representing government workers has endorsed Hillary Rodham Clinton, giving an infusion of support to the Democratic presidential candidate as she heads into the final months before the Iowa caucuses.
The endorsement from the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, which has 1.6 million members, came after its international executive board voted overwhelmingly in her favor, according to a news release.
The group had backed Mrs. Clinton in 2007, when she first ran for president. But some of its members favor Mrs. Clintons chief rival this time, Senator Bernie Sanders, an independent from Vermont who spoke out early against the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal that President Obama has championed.
The unions president, Lee Saunders, who led New York Citys largest municipal union, District Council 37, when Mrs. Clinton was a senator from the state, said A.F.S.C.M.E. leaders believed Mrs. Clinton would be the most effective champion for working families.

Keyword: effective.
That's what we need. That's why I support Hillary Clinton over Sanders or O'Malley. We need an effective champion, not one who can say all the feel-good things without any plan or power to make them a reality.

It is not just the earliest-ever endorsement in the history of the LCV Action Fund; it is an enthusiastic embrace, with fund president Gene Karpinski declaring, When it comes to fighting the climate crisis, the stakes couldnt be higherand we are confident that Hillary Clinton is the right person for the job.

(15,438 posts)she calls on them for policy support. This is key to getting anything done for the country. Sanders doesn't enjoy that level of support from congressional Dems. His supporters believe that should he become president, congressional Dems and some rare moderate Republican (are there any left?) will help usher his liberal policies through Congress, "just cuz". That's wishful thinking - at best.
