Mother Jones ‏@MotherJones : This is why gun control advocates will never forgive Bernie Sanders.

"The lawsuits Sanders helped derail once represented the most viable effort in decades to stem the flow of guns onto the black market."

How Bernie Sanders Helped Derail a Promising Legal Fight Against Gun Violence

The most viable effort in decades to stem the flow of guns onto the black market ended with the immunity bill Sanders helped pass.

In the fall of 2005, the city of New York was preparing a mammoth lawsuit against 14 gun manufacturers and 27 distributors and dealers. The suit set out to prove that the gun industry bore a responsibility for the volume of guns illegally trafficked into the city.

SNIP
The city's lawyers were prepared to argue that in Southern states with lax gun laws, manufacturers supplied dealers with more handguns than the legal market could consume, knowing the excess guns would be trafficked north up the I-95 corridor and sold illegally in cities like New York.

"New York was a very strong case," says Jonathan Lowy, an attorney at the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence who worked on the case. "We were completely ready for trial."

But the trial never came. In October 2005, Congress passed the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), granting sweeping legal immunity to the gun industry. Gun manufacturers who lobbied for the bill warned that suits like New York's were a scheme hatched by activist lawyers and judges to bankrupt the gun industry. The bill's sponsor, Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho), named the New York case on the Senate floor as an example "of the predatory lawsuits" that the PLCAA aimed "to provide for the dismissal of."

SNIP
More than a decade after its passage, the PLCAA is at the center of a fierce debate over gun control between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, the leading candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination. As a senator from New York in 2005, Clinton voted against the PLCAA; Sanders, then in the House of Representatives, voted for it, as he had done for an earlier iteration of the measure that failed in 2003. Recently, Clinton has accused Sanders of bowing to the National Rifle Association on this key piece of legislation.

SNIP
"But sympathy for the victims, and for others in recent mass shootings, has brought new scrutiny to the PLCAA as the Bushmaster case moves forward. Still, the PLCAA could likely end this lawsuit—a fact the Clinton campaign has eagerly pointed out."

This is Great Read, and still a controversial issue Sanders seems prone to avoid, as with most controversial issues that come up in his campaign. Ones that show how his Congressional Voting Record far differ from his pandering stump speeches, or Twitter statements sent out in an effort to avoid controversy as this final week winds down.

Tonight's CNN Town Hall will show this side of Sanders, the one we have witnessed through the previous debates.

I see Sanders has suddenly recognized the destructive Hyde Amendment. A week before the Caucaus begins he flips to the side of Clinton in an effort to align with the "denial of rights for Women's Health brought on by the Hyde Amendment".
25 years in the Senate, when he had the power to address it, now Sanders realizes he needs to finally speak out against it.

This is a seriously concerning pattern with Mr Sanders.
Makes one wonder how committed Sanders really is to an issue that he previously never gave a crap about till votes were on the line.
From gun laws to women's health, no one really knows where Sanders' loyalty will be a month or a year from now.

Now that we all have been informed that the rich have all the money (that was news to me ) - and we can "have it all for free" if we just elect this one guy - Senator Sanders (I-VT) will have to reconcile his independent record to more closely align with the widespread constituency he is asking for support.

I'm sure he understands how this works - after all, he is a successful politician at least on a local level.

And Hillary will be held to 'the higher standard.'

Hillary Clinton will honor that higher standard she alone is held too, superbly.
As she remains solid & true to the Democratic philosophy, her Party will be true to her.

we all pay the price.

You would think a "socialist" would recognize if we the people don't own the means of production, we damn sure better regulate them like we do own them!

In the case of gun manufacturers, "well regulated"!

I'll start with Corruption, as in moffia, international black market, money hidden in off-shore "charitable"trust accts.

I have wondered just why would a seemingly fine American family open a "charitable trust" in the Caribbean?
One would think they would choose a more progressive optio , oh say, like a local credit union.
Especially an all American family who abhors oligarchs & Big Banks.
Why open their "charitable trust" in the Caribbean?

Seems kinda flip-floppy-ish, ya know.

Good thing Bernie Sanders wants to regulate those off shore tax havens. Maybe he just means corporate tax havens. Not personal "charitable trusts", like Jane Sanders has.
Ok. I see.

To protect citizens. He is working to protect corporation profits, she is trying to stop the senseless killings. He is protecting the gun manufacturers, their executives are getting big salaries and people die uselessly in the streets.

"From gun laws to women's health, no one really knows where Sanders' loyalty will be a month or a year from now. "

This is the sad truth about Bernie Sanders & why he must never decide policy for every American. Why he must NEVER be given the power of the Presidential Pen.

NRA, MIC, GW BUSH favors for Sierra Blanca, BLM & Southern Black Voters, & his relentless disparging of the only Party, The DEMS, that has constantly & throughout time stood strong against the Big Corporate Money Party, the GOP.
Start with the Brady Bill...

Sanders is not all he claims to be.
His record speaks for itself.
