Hillary Clinton

...I find myself completely surrounded by people who will have no truck with reality. It's incredibly painful -- not because they're saying mean things about Hillary, but because I believed, or wanted to believe, that we were the "good" side, the side who is supposed to be smarter and nicer. Change a few of the proper nouns, and the discussions here in GD-P are indistinguishable from your average freeper shitfest.
Other than maintaining incredibly long ignore lists, which I've started to do, how do you guys deal with it and still have a good experience on DU?

(11,014 posts)but .... the tea party was a real movement that got candidates elected to the house, to the senate and all the way down the ladder to give their agenda a chance.
Here we have a movement that is as firm in its beliefs but ... nothing down-ticket. I'd have more respect if Bernie had started at the bottom to get state legislatures and house/senate races, getting like-minded people elected. Hell no. It is all about Bernie and let everyone else be damned.

(27,985 posts)Primary season is tough around these parts. It always has been, but this feels different.
Sigh, I don't know, I try to keep my cool and refute at least a little of the incorrect framing and obvious right wing smears. I've lost a few friends here for merely supporting HRC, but I figure they weren't really friends if they would just write me of like that anyway. I definitely make a concerted effort to avoid sinking to the level of nastiness I read all over here. And then I move along and get on with my day because my real life is full of people I love and respect who offer the same to me. Many are even BS supporters

(4,667 posts)The way we handle it is, we don't ever talk about it at home. (That's one of the reasons I've started coming back here!)

(9,967 posts)I just don't open their posts.
Pretty much I just read the headlines and open few (fewer each day) posts.
I'm just hoping that in a couple of weeks, things will change and improve.

Most of the time, I ignore those.

(15,373 posts)DU from any RW GOPer website anymore. Until January 2016, I had NEVER trashed a thread. Now I trash several on a daily basis so that they no longer come up on the Latest Threads feed for me. Unfortunately, they STILL show up on the DU Home page. Until December 2015, I had only four people on my Ignore list. Now I add several each day and have those "incredibly long Ignore lists" you mention. Perhaps I'll un-ignore at least some later. But perhaps not.
I find that one of the best forums for substantive discussion (and excellent wit as well) on DU is the AA Forum, although there are still some who feel a special sense of entitlement who like to pass by and drop ignorant, occasionally outrageous and often racist bombs there. It is the only Forum to which I subscribe although, full disclosure, I am not a POC. They have graciously made me feel welcome there.
This forum, the Hillary Clinton Group, is supposed to be a protected group for those of us who like and admire Hillary Cliinton and want her to be our next US President so that we can discuss her without flamebait being thrown. But even here there are Alert Stalkers who come primarily to ensure that we feel their chilling effect on free speech. I received my first hide ever for a post I made in this group that was not deemed to show proper deference towards Bernie. I really wonder whether some of these Alert Stalkers have actual lives.
When you've absolutely had it with the slurs, smears, snarks and repetition of already discredited stories about Hillary, try the DU Lounge where some of the wonderful wit that first attracted me to DU can be found.
There are also some wonderful posters who post interesting information that is apolitical or non-political on a daily basis. They also make DU worthwhile. Even now.
When you literally cannot stand the rampant CDS Hllary-bashing and need some fresh air, search out DUer BooScout, who may offer an alternative.

then feel so unfairly targeted when people stop taking their shit.
They are highly invested in 20+ years of anti-Hillary propaganda. Half their poll numbers are a direct result of it.
He runs as a Democrat because he would have no platform from which to speak otherwise, no access to the debate stage or the DNC voter database.
They post hit pieces on an hourly basis, including those that would impugn her high-profile endorsers. Many are pretty manic about it.
What do I do to get through this site. I see it for the self-absorbed scatfest that it has become. I say let them have at it.

(32,623 posts)a post calling Bill Clinton a rapist hidden. It's in gdp now. 25 recs so far. That's some far out fringe stuff right there.

(23,753 posts)try to drive a wedge between otherwise like minded (or at least cordial) Democrats. Unfortunately regular DU'ers get caught up in the hysteria and jump on board the chit throwing band wagon. Then you have the newbies to DU who just think this is another social media platform where it's cool to be as nasty and mean as you want because you can do it anonymously. It is dismaying and disappointing to see so many otherwise staunch Democrats do the RW opposition research and hit pieces on another Democrat.

Even here in the Hillary Group you have to be careful that you are not "unkind" to Mr. Sanders are talk about his supporters. I have two hides in this group for absolutely no good reason.
But here's the thing: Everyone has to wake up sooner or later and dreams of magical unicorns have a tendency to evaporate when we face the cold clear light of reality in the morning. And the wake up call for many has already been set and the phone is about to ring.
No one knows what is going to happen in Nevada, though it looks to me to be a win for Hillary, but after that it a rock road for Bernie Sanders:

Alabama (58 delegates) no recent polls, compare to other southern states
American Samoa (10 delegates) no recent polls
