Hillary Clinton

Not sure Bernie's vetting has been throughly done yet? I think Hillary needs to call him out more...he seems to not take criticism well...as that MSNBC interview showed: he starts to yell and lose his cool. Hillary is calm cool and collected, even under scrutiny.

(135,425 posts)I think Bernie tends to run away from racial and ethnic issues, said Vaughn Carney, a corporate lawyer and a leader in the states black community. Carney has voted for Sanders in every election but is backing Hillary Clinton this year.
Racial profiling is a fact of life here. Vermont incarcerates black people at the fourth highest rate in the U.S., but no one talks about that. I have been beating on that drum for a while now, and I hoped that Bernie would up that mantle, but he has not. He is like a lot of Vermonters who like to congratulate themselves on how progressive they are but sweep these issues under the rug.
Carney met with Vermonts other senator, Patrick Leahy, as well as the states lone congressional representative about these concerns. Sanderss office didnt respond to his efforts, Carney said.
Other civil rights leaders said much the samethat Leahy seemed far more responsive than Sanders. Overall we felt as though Sen. Leahy was interested in keeping informed on our issues, said Reed, a compliment he did not pay to his other senator.

(16,104 posts)It's like a candidate pointing out his constituency is rural gun-owners, not "urban" problems others may have.
At least, not until you 'join' a particular party for the benefits of a national campaign, and suddenly you need those "urban" voters.

(42,375 posts)How is that even possible in a state that size?

(4,035 posts)So in discrete numbers they don't incarcerate as many black people as other states with a bigger African American population. It does seem like Vermont cops are quite racist, though. That Bernie Sanders hasn't tried to do something about it (if he even bothered to find out about it) speak volumes, though. He was part of the white flight from a much more diverse state, so perhaps it's not something he's interested in fighting against?

I'm sure they are reaching out to their affiliated groups in other states. I would hope so.
