Hillary Clinton courts Silicon Valley - Hillary Group post

http://www.politico.com/story/2015/05/hillary-clinton-courts-silicon-valley-117563.html

Hard to believe a fair article in Politico, but this is a nice long article about Hillary and her ties to the tech industry.

Her trip includes a Wednesday stop at a fundraiser hosted by Tom Steyer, a major Democratic donor and clean energy advocate, and Thursday appearance at the home of Susie Tompkins Buell, co-founder of the Esprit clothing company. A day later, she’ll head to the Portola Valley home of the Donahoes — just a few weeks after John, the eBay CEO, hosted Clinton for a paid speech at his company’s headquarters. The former secretary of state is also close with Eileen Donahoe; the two worked together on issues related to gay, lesbian and transgender equality.

Clinton hasn’t articulated a specific tech agenda, but many industry insiders believe she’s on the same page as them. One of the first signs of Clinton’s tech outreach came during a February on-stage interview at the Watermark Silicon Valley Conference for Women, before she announced her plans to run for president.

“She talked about STEM, she talked about gender parity, she talked about women and equal pay — and she nailed it,” said Shelly Kapoor Collins, the CEO of Enscient, a human resources technology firm and the former national co-chair for Technology for Obama.
“I saw [Clinton] after that, and I said to her, ‘Repeat that again and again and again,’” Collins said in an interview. “It resonated so much with people in the Valley … And on top of that, she’s talking their tech language. I don’t see how she wouldn’t have their support.”

Asked at the event about the FCC’s new net neutrality rules, Clinton offered praise for the agency’s approach — which is backed by many in the tech industry. Her GOP opponents, by contrast, have blasted the FCC’s move and the Obama administration’s support for it. Sen. Paul has even introduced a long-shot congressional resolution to overturn the FCC’s work. The Kentucky Republican, who is setting up a San Francisco outpost, is set to visit the city for a public event of his own on Saturday.
