Disappointing answer on Gold Butte and public lands from @BernieSanders. Not sure he fully understands this Western issue.

Clinton for president

For information on the Democratic caucuses go to http://nvdems.com/caucus/express/
Endorsements in big races dont carry much weight in politics these days as the electorate has been reduced to those who still believe their vote matters, and they are fully capable of making up their own minds. Nevertheless, Ive been asked frequently by friends, family and neighbors about my reasons for supporting Hillary Clinton in our caucus this Saturday, and Im happy to oblige.
Twitter wars about who is the real progressive in the Democratic primary hold no appeal for me. I dont get diverted by ruthless outrage over coin tosses in the Iowa caucus or misleading information distributed by campaign staff. Im also not much interested in the daily glossy mailers, full of lofty language designed to appeal to my progressive heart. And Ill definitely discount this weeks last minute visits and phone calls to sway me to another candidate.
I made up my mind a long time ago.
Although I like much of the populist message Bernie Sanders is promoting, he has no realistic plan to achieve any of it. While I support universal health care, the battle over the Affordable Care Act revealed the strength of the prescription drug companies and the various factions of the health care industry. Were not going to get universal health care until we get rid of the dark money in political campaigns. We cant do that without changing the orientation of the Supreme Court.
Lets face reality. The Revolution is not arriving this year or anytime soon. Half the country refuses to acknowledge the science of climate change and our complicity in subsidizing energy policies that complicate a solution. They seem just as determined to deny a womans right to choose. Their candidates have no plan to replace Obamacare after they repeal it, but that doesnt seem to bother their voters. They want to privatize prisons and schools, and arent all that worried about the environmental destruction of fracking or the nations crumbling infrastructure that poisoned the children of Flint.
Remember, they want their country back..............................

(15,373 posts)but there were at least two areas other than those Empowerer has already highlighted where I seemed to see disappointment on the faces of those who asked the questions.
One was in re the Gold Butte issue. Bernie FINALLY got to national monuments at the end, etc. after a long tangentially-related spiel, but he really missed the point on that one. As a born-and-bred Westerner, I share Sheila Leslie's disappointment.
The other was "revolution:" Diaz-Balart noted how "revolution" has a specific connotation for Latinos and how Bernie always talks about "revolution" for implementing his proposals. In his answer, Bernie mentioned his proposals, saying that they would occur - perhaps magically? - nothing like in Cuba or Venezuela, and never mentioned the word "revolution" once. I found that interesting in that "revolution" is one of his key talking points.
My last comment: Bernie was all about using "I will do" as if he is a one-man show who can literally do everything himself. Hillary was all about putting her proposals together, getting them to the proper Congressional committees/responsible parties, giving the process a kick-start and following up, thus recognizing that the President is but one cog in the wheel of government. Therein lies a HUGE difference.
Edited to change "HUG" to "HUGE" - didn't want any snarks from passers-by, LOL.

(11,617 posts)He mentions executive powers as well, and it seems he has done little to help or support other Dems in the election--it is all about himself.
He always cites his VA funding bill legislation as a historic achievement (he has nothing else but voting against things as a super watch dog for the "American People" , yet he fails to mention (nor is he called out) that he ignored the advice of major Veterans Groups to plug the holes within the system or the extra funding would not go to help Veterans--and it didn't--huge shortfall because of rampant corruption and waste. No wonder he was able to "work together" with Republicans to get it passed.
