Two of Clinton’s challengers are new to the Democratic Party, and therefore lack strong ties with the local party establishments. For Clinton, that made for easy endorsement pickings in Vermont, where Democratic Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger revealed his support for her the same day that Bernie Sanders, an independent and former Burlington mayor, said he would challenge her for the Democratic nomination.

The Clinton campaign reached out to line up the endorsement before Sanders’ announcement, according to a source familiar with the conversation, reflecting an attention to detail. Vermont’s other senator, Patrick Leahy, is also backing Clinton.

The people of VT are practical and realistic. They also know that they aren't like the rest of the country--it's why they choose to live in VT, because it is, indeed, a special place. That's why they aren't leaping up and down about what is, in essence, a stalking horse candidacy--they know which way the wind blows.

Views will not sell nationally, some say

They just don't think he translates well nationally, and they're right.

From your link, Justin.. mahalo!

"Spokesperson Scott Coriell said Shumlin "has tremendous respect for Senator Sanders.....Hillary Clinton has been fighting her whole life for everyday Americans and the Governor believes she is the right person to lead America as the next President of the United States."

They're like Wyoming--two Senators, one representative. Of course, every state gets 2 senators, so person-for-person, VT (and WY) get a lot more attention paid to their citizens by their delegation, because their delegation doesn't have to serve as many people. Barbara Boxer's workload, just in terms of people served, is crushing compared to senators from small states with scant populations.

They have very little in terms of population in VT which is part of their charm--624K people or so. The entire state of VT has fewer people living in it than the cities of Boston or Seattle.

It's a rural state--it has priorities that differ from those of states with a more varied economic base and larger populations. Great place to live, but they don't deal with issues that a lot of more urban and diverse states have to address.

That is very good news. I think Bernie and Hillary are going to have a lot of fun discussing the issues for a national audience. The Washington news corps are just going to be furious with those two for actually talking about real issues. This is going to be a very interesting election cycle.
