Ugh.

I feel disappointed. I'm (wo)man enough to admit it. Bernie is such a rigid ideologue with such a narrow focus in his platform, and he seems angry all the time - I thought it would turn people off. Combine that with Hillary's obvious qualification for the job, her experience, her presidential demeanor, and her broad, hopeful platform, and I did, actually, naively I suppose, think this process would be pretty straightforward.

No, I didn't think Bernie would win ONLY Vermont. But I did sure as hell think Hillary would win Michigan. I am now worried about Ohio and PA. Big delegate counts and similar to MI in, I don't know, they just feel similar to me. The kinds of people who live there and the things those people are concerned about. I now can't trust the polls. I feel in the dark about what's going to happen next.

I feel deflated. I am also irritated with open primaries - shouldn't a party get to choose its own nominee? But I guess that sounds like sour grapes...

I am only venting. GD-P is making me feel very stressed. And I feel impotent, all the way over here in the UK. I can't phonebank, canvass, I can't even donate.

I don't want to be doom and gloom. Hillary is still up in delegates. And I do still think she's a lock for Florida. That will help.

Bleh. Sorry for the vent.

I've been here for years (under a different screen name) and I remember the 2008 primary being terrible on DU, but I actually think this is worse. I think I'll stay in this safe haven as well, good idea.

DU, believe it or not, can be a really fantastic place when it's not primary season.

My dear old mom is promoting Hillary with her little old lady friends, all of whom will vote in Delaware. Not many delegates, but they've got heart!

Thanks for the hope.

Since then I only used DU to get the Latest news and the Democrats take on them. I voted for HRC in 2008 while abroad and for Obama in the General.

But now when I realized how HRC was being trashed by the left so consistently and rabidly, decided we need more HRC's supporters and this fight we ought to fight, so I rejoined... and so on...

b/c I was befuddled by a moron in the republican side becoming the nominee and afraid he would become president. So during around that time found DU and salon and few others...

Also, I got very active in politics b/c CO my state at the time (NY now) voted for a state Amendment to make sure that gays did not get special protections under the law. I am not gay but felt that I needed to wake up to the reality that Republicans were serious and a serious threat to human rights. So many of us woke up and fought this amendment which was ultimately deemed unconstitutional by SCOTUS.

It was clearly the independent vote that pushed Bernie to the win and maybe pollsters need to include that in their polling of open primaries...some of the polls were dead on with the dem vote breakdown from last night.

Also remember: there is nothing better than Hillary after a knockdown...even though this really wasn't a big knockdown...she's still up and winning. But the perception obviously is not good. I expect her to be on the very top of her game in tonight's debate...

I also think Bernie's race has been and will continue to be good for her...it's making her a better candidate and if she even slightly embraces some of his ideas, it will bring them closer together for the GE. She knows she needs his supporters and if Bernie cares about this country, he knows Hillary has to win and she has the majority/minority vote which of course is needed...they need each other.

And yes, better to take refuge here and next Tues should be a better night!

Nobody better at picking herself up, dusting herself off, and getting back in the ring than Hillary Clinton. She is likely to be on top form in the debate.

I don't mind a long primary normally. I like when everyone's vote matters. But all these open primaries and the uncertainty - I will try to stay positive, and I appreciate the good wishes.

... the worse possible case. So let's say that Sanders wins Ohio and PA by a narrow margin as he did in Michigan. Sure, they have big delegate counts, but with the proportional splitting of delegates he still gets roughly have the Ohio and PA delegates.

Big deal, how does that bring him any closer to catching up with Hillary? Answer: It doesn't. He still has to win other states by large margins to attempt to catch up and he has two less big states to do it in.

On the other hand, victories in either state for Hillary just puts her that much further ahead.

Ohio an PA are virtually "heads I win" "tails nobody wins" situations.

I'm from PA. I think Hillary will shellack Bernie in Philadelphia, which is the largest population center. There are also a lot of Latinos in PA, and I think they will go for Hillary. Many are union members.

Looking at the numbers is soothing. I suppose one of the big reasons I wanted MI was to have the emotional satisfaction. But with proportional delegate allocation, as you say, she's in a very good position.

I canvassed for Hillary in '08 in Philadelphia. Although the city went Obama (largely because of the African American vote), there was still a lot of love for Hillary there. I expect she will win the city BIG this cycle and take PA by a larger margin than she did in '08.

I do think she will win California.

and that's certainly understandable, fair, and appropriate.

OH is a tad more conservative than MI...Bernie won MI by a tad. So I think it'll be a closer race than projected. Plus it's another open primary.

Pennsylvania varies, but I can't see the Philly area going for Bernie...I live just north of it. And as goes Philly, so goes the state--the rest of it is less pie in the sky than Philly and is even less likely to go Bernie.

Plus our Primary is closed and the deadline for registration is quickly approaching.

I don't think Bernie takes PA, and I don't think the election could possibly be closer than Clinton +5 as things stand now (more than a month out, we should note, so predictions are useless).

Interestingly, Philly went Obama in '08, and Hillary won with the rest of the (more conservative) state. With nothing splitting the African American vote this time around, it's possible she has an even bigger win there this cycle.

I canvassed for Hillary in Philly in '08. It went Obama, but there was still a lot of love for her there. Big union city.

I hope Ohio goes Hillary, I really do. But I feel like it's a big question mark now. Whatever the case, I don't think Bernie's win will be huge there, so Hillary's delegate lead should not suffer too much.

It's interesting to note that Silver's target for Clinton in PA is 93 delegates to Sanders' 96 delegates. He's accounting for a slight loss in PA.

Heck, Obama had MY vote in 2008! He was a slightly superior candidate and far better orator than Clinton was. He won me into his camp during late winter and I never left it--but I never stopped liking Clinton either!

This time around? Clinton, no question...or I wouldn't be posting here.

I share your deflated mood. Most Bernie supporters haven't taken a good look at the guy - his Congressional track record, his biography, and most importantly, no one seems to be answering the question: why have only 5 Democrats in Congress endorsed him? Many Dems have worked with Bernie. What are they seeing that supporters aren't? I'd say plenty, and it's not good.

BUT Florida and PA are closed primaries. Only declared Democrats can vote. That's one reason why Bernie's not doing much work in Florida.

Stay away from GD-P. They are a frenzied mob who firmly believe that Bernie is the Saint, and Hillary is the Satan. Very difficult to take.

The race is competitive now, but it's long from being over. Stay positive and let's each of us keep our morale up through the coming weeks.

I don't compare their supporters in any other way, but the anger is the same. Bernie is often red in the face and shouting - it doesn't appeal to me at all, as a candidate for the Presidency, where international relations will depend upon the person keeping his/her cool!

I don't get too angry about the way things go in politics - it's a long game, and I've been around long enough to know that change happens slowly. As long as we're moving in the right direction, that's what I want!

She increased her lead last night. People will completely ignore her mississippi win and focus on the narrow loss in mich.
The thing I always notice is how excited they get everytime he wins one, and they start expecting him to start 'crushing' her in the other states. What has been happening is that he gets a win, then several horrible losses.
But yeah. We have to push the dnc on the open primaries but I think states get to decide.

I know he will win my caucus. Gun state (all of us hav guns for the most part, i recieve them as gifts on birthdays, xmas, the red rider and pink daisy rifles are in a open bin at walmart). Wilderness. Hunting. Wild moose. Wolves on the tundra. Now way we are going for gun control when the bears keep coming into downtown to eat the trash at the hotels dumpster.
