As Long As We're Talking About Rule Changes...

I propose that the DNC adopt a rule that requires any candidate running for the D presidential nomination be a current member-in-good-standing with the Democratic Party for a minimum of FIVE consecutive years leading up to the day they declare as a candidate.

The purpose of the Democratic Party is to elect Democrats. It would help if real Democrats were running for the office.

BTW - this isn't a swipe at Bernie. It's an opportunity. If you feel that you may want to run one day for president as a D, taking advantage of everything doing so offers - campaign structure, media exposure, etc - then it's worth planning ahead. By spending 5 years as a D, you can build relationships within the party that may be advantageous to you when it comes to - oh, I don't know - getting super delegates to support you. It also gives you the opportunity to propose rule changes before the primaries take place.

3. I've thought that too. But, I think Sanders would have run as an Independent and easily siphoned

4. Had BS run as an Independent, he would have received almost no media coverage.

His fund raising would be nonexistent. I seriously doubt if he could have got on every state ballot. He would have been under-the-radar, just like most other Indy candidates.

10. Good point, but I'm glad we don't have to find out. And I think his run has been good for us
