Hillary and wage increases (one Xpost)--and today Cuomo, Clinton To Star At $15 Minimum Wage Victory

I posted the information below about Hillary's position-on wage increase--
I so tire of their misinformation (could us the big L. word but will not)

Their use of Uncut leads them astray--I read that short Uncut article and I hear those words over there a lot.

I see it as the local (Hillary's position)vs National approach (Sanders).

She does also have lots more information on her website--I recall reading about it not so long ago).

Anyway--for today--this is what is going on in NY involving Hillary:

NEW YORK (CBS NewYork/AP) — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Hillary Clinton, the leading Democratic candidate for president, will be the star attractions at a victory rally in New York City for the $15 minimum wage.

Monday’s rally, which will also tout paid family leave, is being held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. Also attending the event will be labor leaders, advocates and minimum wage workers.

On Friday, the New York Legislature passed a plan that would gradually raise the minimum wage to $15 in New York City by the end of 2018. On Long Island and in Westchester County, the wage would rise to $15 by the end of 2022.......

7. Your information is wrong-->JULY 24 2015 Hillary Clinton to Back $15 Fast-Food Minimum Wage in New Y

Your article--which you repeated from uncut is purposely misleading you. The OP says she "who refused to endorse $15/hour"-" but then links to the Buzz feed article which tells a different story. Shame on Uncut (articles on that site looks like stuff the RW would use against Hillary!!) .

****You many not agree with the local approach but at least get the story right-AND per the NYtimes article below she endorsed the $15 hour in NY last summer.

From below:
Hillary:“I support the local efforts that are going on that are making it possible for people working in certain localities to actually earn 15,” Clinton said in a response to a question from BuzzFeed News during a press availability in New Hampshire on Thursday.

The link in OP
Uncut: ..........."By contrast, Hillary Clinton is the only prominent Democrat who refused to endorse $15/hour"----

Hillary Clinton Declines To Support A National $15 Minimum Wage

Clinton says she supports raising the national minimum wage, but adds that “what you can do in L.A. or in New York may not work in other places.”

Hillary Clinton on Thursday wouldn’t commit to supporting a $15 national minimum wage but said she is working with Democrats in Congress who are determining how high it can be set.

“I support the local efforts that are going on that are making it possible for people working in certain localities to actually earn 15,” Clinton said in a response to a question from BuzzFeed News during a press availability in New Hampshire on Thursday.

“I think part of the reason that the Congress and very strong Democratic supporters of increasing the minimum wage are trying to debate and determine what’s the national floor is because there are different economic environments. And what you can do in L.A. or in New York may not work in other places.”

In June, Clinton spoke by phone to a gathering of “Fight for 15” organizers, a national movement to raise the minimum wage to $15.

“We need more cities and states to follow the lead of Los Angeles, St. Louis, and New York,” Clinton said then, referring city legislatures that raised their local minimum wages to $15.......................

Hillary Clinton to Back $15 Fast-Food Minimum Wage in New York

http://www.nytimes.com/politics/first-draft/2015/07/24/hillary-clinton-to-back-15-fast-food-minimum-wage-in-new-york/?_r=0

Hillary Rodham Clinton on Friday will use a speech focused on growing the economy to endorse a $15-an-hour minimum wage proposal for fast-food workers recommended by a New York panel, a person briefed on her plans said.

The remarks from Mrs. Clinton will come in the city where the fast-food workers’ labor effort first started several years ago. A panel created by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Wednesday recommended the change; the increase will occur faster in New York City than other parts of the state because of the higher cost of living there.

Some Democrats are pushing for the federal minimum wage to be raised to $15 an hour, including two other candidates for the party’s presidential nomination: Bernie Sanders, the Vermont senator, and Martin O’Malley, the former Maryland governor.

Mrs. Clinton has argued that the national minimum wage of $7.25 an hour needs to be increased, but she has not gone so far as to endorse an increase to $15. Her embrace of the New York recommendation for fast-food workers will be her first endorsement of a $15-per-hour minimum in any context.

In a town hall in New Hampshire, Mrs. Clinton suggested a nuanced view of the national minimum-wage debate, one that is more localized than a uniform change in federal policy.

“I think part of the reason that the Congress and very strong Democratic supporters of increasing the minimum wage are trying to debate and determine what’s the national floor is because there are different economic environments,” Mrs. Clinton said. “And what you can do in L.A. or in New York may not work in other places.”

In some states you can buy a beautiful 2,000 sq ft house for less than $200,000. Here...at least twice that. Rents are vastly different, too. Minimum wage in some states is $7.25...$2.13 for tipped workers.

If the Fed were to raise it--he would have to go along. But as one of the articles points out--no chance with our House make up at the time.

WI has a lot of low income --tourist jobs. A 12 $ would help.

We also have some upper income areas along the border and SE wisconsin-and mid WI.

Anyway--Hillary does support the 15$ wage level (even that is over years).

I only wish it could happen sooner. Six years seems a cruel wait. Hillary's $12, as I understand it, would happen now. And in six years, there's a good chance it would go to $15 anyway. Of course, maybe I'm wrong. But I'm trying to stick up for her.

I am soooo glad this is happening in NY! An incredible precedent and starts the momentum! Way to go Hillary!!!

That said, do Bernistas not realize that many small employers are really struggling in this economy? That they will actually go out of business because they will not be able to meet that demand? Do they not understand that doubling the payscale will mean that half the employees at some companies will lose their jobs? Hillary is trying to find a middle ground which will make those who can afford it pay their employees more and make sure the little guy employers be able to stay in business and keep people on the payroll.

This is one of those cases in which Hillary is working to find a way for struggling employers in some states to manage that. Many, many states are absolutely dug in at $7.25 and resistant to any foreseeable change. Do Bernistas understand that? There is no royal decree on this, it will take cooperation. No surprise nearly all those states are pure Republican and often poor:

They include:

Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Hampshire, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming.

Those Red State representatives have to be convinced to make a drastic change for their electorate. You can be sure that $12@hr base rate will be extremely hard fought. Bernie and his followers need to get out more.

Looks like another arrow in Bernie's quiver is quashed, and Hillary Clinton is correct: allow States and localities to decide but at least make the FEDERAL minimum wage $12 p/hour. This would help Republican-dominated "red" State employees (why these people continue to vote Republican is beyond my capacity to understand).

Edited to add: Good things happen when the Democratic Party is in control.

KTLA 5, April 4, 2016 by Anthony Kurzweil and Sara Welch, Updated at 09:08am, April 4, 2016:

Governor Jerry Brown is set to make California the first state in the nation to commit to a $15 per hour minimum wage Monday.

“This plan raises the minimum wage in a careful and responsible way and provides some flexibility if economic and budgetary conditions change,” Brown said when the deal was announced.

Under the plan, minimum wage was expected to increase to $10.50 per hour on Jan. 1, 2017 for businesses with 26 or more employees.

The minimum wage would then rise each year until it reaches $15 per hour in 2022.

not just incremental, but tied to local economies as well. They recognize that not all economies can make this change, especially not all at once. Tieing it into inflation is good, because it keeps it from becoming static like it has been.
