We need her leadership to continue the gains we have made under Obama.

(81,304 posts)I thought it was a GREAT speech! A couple of times I jumped up out of my seat with my fists held high in the air!
I want to hear the candidates talk about the setbacks regarding a woman's right to choose. It doesn't seem to be all that important to all that many people anymore. But it's damned important to ME! And I'm tired of watching this damnable trend of pushing women back to the Bronze Age. At the rate we're going, I'd expect some CONS to introduce legislation mandating that all women above the age of 12 MUST grow their hair long like michelle duggar and daughters. The easier for any man to grab her by her hair and drag her back to his cave.
I haven't heard much yet regarding PROTECTING a woman's right to choose - or even recognizing it openly as an important issue - from anybody on our side except for Hillary.

(32,610 posts)Hope I wasn't rude to you in that thread about the meaning/origin of PUMA.
As a result of that thread I was thinking about that day in May of 2008 when I was in DC. A "journalist" came up and asked me a question about why I was supporting Hillary. I gave her my answer but then she started arguing with me because she didn't like my answer. I verified that she was a "journalist" and said I didn't understand what she was doing. We continued to go back and forth and somewhere along the way she got to her main point. Even though I had not stated that I was supporting Hillary because she is a woman, actually if anything I would support Hillary because I am a woman, the "journalist" kept insisting that we are in a post feminist era and Hillary's sex should not matter. It was weird as she tried to convince me that it was Barack's time.
One of the people I had traveled with to DC teaches Women's Studies and had immediately recognized the woman who was "interviewing" me. They got into a big argument about whether or not we are in a post feminist period. I just listened because I thought it was really bizarre that anyway would try to make that argument. My friend even referred to some of the journalists writings. I was just standing on the side going "What the hell?"
Anyway, after the past few years of the war on women I don't think anyone (except teabagger) thinks that is an argument with any merit and it won't be used this time around.
jftr - this is the "journalist" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelle_Goldberg
She shows up on MSNBC once in awhile. I turn it off.

(71,265 posts)the pumas never did any damage. The new pumas today are the ones who say they won't support Clinton.

(30,742 posts)I was attending a Democratic event in a nearby county. What ws the thread about PUMAs and their origins? Do you have a link?
I never figured out why people here were calling me a PUMA when I was out IRL working for Obama.

(32,610 posts)The first time I heard the phrase it was used by a female blogger who was very angry about party shenanigans. Can't remember her name at the moment. Then it was taken over by others with a different agenda. Some guy started a website and he kept showing up on tv pretending he started it. He was just another opportunist and was trying to make money off of it.
Meanwhile, all of the Hillary supporters went to work to elect Obama. However, I will never get over what the DNC did or allowed to happened and have not contributed a dime to it/them since.

(30,742 posts)I am remembering more and more about that primary cycle and how Obama ended up being the nominee.
I have never failed to support, work for, and vote for a Democratic nominee. Even when i had limited time, I did something, even if it was small.
I just hope everyone else here behaves the same way.
As usual, I am not convinced of the sincerity or loyalty of everyone who shows up to shout and scream on DU during silly season. I think some of them live under bridges the rest of the time.

(81,304 posts)My ASS! "Post feminist"? What complete and total BULLSHIT!!!!! When did frank luntz come up with THAT one?
"Post - anything" implies that there's no issue or problem to deal with anymore. And we've hardly begun to solve much of anything, problem-wise, in either of those realms - EITHER "post feminist" OR "post racial"!

(297,275 posts)A quote I just saw in NYMag..
Hillary Makes Her Case
"New York is the microcosm of America. It's got rich, and very rich. It's got poor and very poor. It's got Hispanic, Asian, young, old, retirees. Every voter Hillary is going to run into out on the campaign trail."
snip//
"For months, Democrats have been urging Clinton to make the case for why she deserves to be president, why she's fighting and who she's fighting for. On Saturday, she tried to answer them: "We can build an economy where hard work is rewarded," she said. "We can renew the promise of our democracy if we all do our part." She asked those watching to "help me build this campaign and make it your own."

Most posters who support another candidate are polite and rational in their advocacy. I do admire and appreciate that
