BRIGHTON, N.Y. --..............

Mrs. Clinton struck a cord with the crowd addressing issues many of them face including the economy and good paying jobs. Clinton says she wants to change tax incentives to encourage companies to bring manufacturing jobs back to Upstate New York.
.......................

There were a lot of young people in the audience, many of them college students.

Clinton told them she wants to make college more affordable, calling for a debt free education where students from middle class and poor families won't have to borrow money to go to a public college or university. Clinton also says she'll help those with student debt to get it under control.

"We're going to give you the opportunity to refinance your student debt. We're going to put a date certain for your obligations to end," Clinton said. "If you've been paying monthly, after 20 years it's over."

Gun violence is another area Clinton spoke about that hits close to home. She wants gun control that calls for comprehensive background checks and closes loop holes for gun show and on-line purchases.

Clinton also spent some time in Buffalo.

Duffs? Anchor Bar? Nope, it was coffee on Jefferson Avenue and beef on weck at Charlie the Butcher.

Hillary Clinton wrapped up a day of campaigning in Buffalo on Friday by posing for photos with potential voters at Golden Cup Coffee Co. on Jefferson Avenue and shaking hands at the Wehrle Drive roast beef restaurant.

She used earlier campaign stops at the Buffalo Transportation Pierce Arrow Museum and at Gates Vascular Institute to tout her accomplishments as a former New York senator.

"There is no doubt in my mind that Buffalo is on the rise and Buffalo will have a great future," Clinton told hundreds at the car museum for an afternoon rally that also drew a few dozen protesters outside.

She also pushed back on remarks by Bernie Sanders, who had said earlier this week she was not qualified to be president. "Seriously, I've been called a lot of things through the years, but unqualified has not been one of them," Clinton told the crowd in Buffalo.

3:58 p.m.: Clinton stopped at Golden Cup Coffee on Jefferson Avenue, where she ordered a "Buffalo roast" and took selfies with voters.

The coffeehouse and roastery, which opened in 2010, has benefited from economic development efforts intended to stimulate small-business growth near the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.

3:13 p.m.: Clinton wrapped up as the lyrics to Rachel Platten's "Fight Song" blared across the room.

"I don't take anything for granted, especially in a place I love as much as Western New York," Clinton said before spending some time shaking hands and signing autographs.

ELECTION 2016: Democratic presidential hopeful rallies support in Buffalo.

By Mia Summerson mia.summerson@niagara-gazette.com 12 hrs ago

BUFFALO — Hillary Clinton says she has not forgotten about Western New York.

The Democratic presidential hopeful, who once represented the region as a member of the U.S. Senate, appeared before a large crowd on Friday afternoon at Pierce Arrow Museum.

Clinton assured her Western New York supporters that if chosen as the Democratic nominee for the November general election, she would not let their needs go unheard.

She recounted a story from a stay in Buffalo a while back, when she was campaigning for her first term as a U.S. senator. At her hotel, she became familiar with a particular maid who, upon her departure, presented Clinton with a snow globe that had a buffalo in it. The maid asked her to please remember the people of Western New York.

"I put that (snow globe) on my dresser and I see that every single day," Clinton said. "I'm not going to forget Buffalo. I'm not going to forget Niagara Falls. I'm not going to forget Jamestown. I'm not going to forget Western New York. In fact, I think I might be in a pretty good position to help even more.
"

Clinton's speech was preceded by words of praise from prominent local Democrats including Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown and Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, all of whom expressed confidence in Clinton's agenda and urged rally-goers to encourage those they know to vote for her in New York's primary election on April 19.

While Clinton assured the crowd that she had not forgotten their commhttp://www.lockportjournal.com/content/tncms/live/#1unity, Hochul promised Clinton that Western New York hasn't forgotten what she's done for them either.

Hochul pointed out several things Clinton accomplished locally, including helping to preserve Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, fighting for justice for former Bethlehem Steel workers who were exposed to cancer-causing asbestos and working with U
.S. Rep. Brian Higgins, D-Niagara Falls and Buffalo, to revitalize Buffalo's waterfront. ...................

It's great to see that media at the local level still takes their responsibility to report accurate information to their readers seriously.
