The Colombian Constitutional Court reaffirmed the right of women to obtain abortions in a decision passed down Wednesday.

The Plenary Chamber of the Constitutional Court upheld a 2005 decision which states that abortion is legal in cases of rape, fetal malformation, or if the pregnancy is a serious health risk to the mother or child.

This decision came in reponse to Inspector General Alejandro Ordonez' motion to nullify the 2005 ruling.

The Court also ordered to Ordoñez' office to refrain from investigating doctors and healthcare providers who have authorized abortions.
