The Attorney General Office launched an investigation into reports published by Venezuelan media about water pollution, following a complaint filed by three people whose names were not disclosed by Attorney General Luisa Ortega Díaz.

"Complainants said that reports about water pollution have alarmed people," she stated. Therefore, Ortega appointed Daniel Guédez, the 20th public prosecutor with national jurisdiction, to investigate media reports.

"Media should disseminate truthful information," Ortega said. "Reports about water pollution must be supported by research conducted by experts," she said.

"People are frightened by media reports that water for human use is polluted," Ortega concluded.

they are investigating the media for reporting on water pollution, not investigating the water pollution.

The problem isn't what the media says, you exercise a service so that the community can express themselves. The worst the government can do is censor information.

You, the responsable government, if you have a complaint from the community that there is contaminated water, you must go, perform tests, and notify the public that the water is contaminated, and make the efforts to resolve it.

He characterized as unusual that the day World Water Day is celebrated, Venezuela has 4 million people who don't receive it "when we are one of the the countries with the greatest water reserves in the world"

its tempting to say how wise Capriles is but the reality is he is simply stating the obvious. He has really been tweaking the repressive current government though lately.

"El problema no es qué dicen los medios de comunicación, ustedes periodistas ejercen la contraloría, que la comunidad tenga un espacio para expresarse. Lo peor que puede hacer un gobierno es tratar de tapar la información", dijo Capriles desde el estado Táchira donde realiza su segundo día de recorrido casa por casa.

"Usted como Gobierno responsable, si tiene una denuncia de una comunidad que hay agua contaminada tiene que ir, hacer las pruebas y notificar que el agua está contaminada y que realizará todo el esfuerzo para resolver", agregó.

Calificó de insólito que hoy cuando se celebra el Día Mundial del Agua, Venezuela tiene más de 4 millones de personas que no la reciben, "cuando somos uno de los países con mayores reservas de agua en el mundo".
