CELAC doctrine of peace and justice articulated against U.S. policy

Last edited Tue May 28, 2013, 02:14 PM - Edit history (1)

I kept thinking about bvar 22's words while reading the article about CELAC. Sure enough.

We are blindly driving an entire continent into the arms of China and Russia
and losing these emerging markets to American products.
There WILL be Blowback,
and it WILL be the fault of our current national leadership.

Foreign ministers of Russia, CELAC to meet in Moscow

The foreign ministers (of CELAC) and the expanded CELAC troika (Cuba, Chile, Costa Rica and Haiti) will convene two weeks from now, he said on Monday at a State Duma meeting dedicated to Latin America.

...

The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) was established in December 2011 with the active participation of late Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez. It has 33 members from the western hemisphere exclusive of the United States and Canada. The organization seeks to become the main regional mechanism of political dialogue and cooperation of CELAC members to counterbalance the Organization of American States (OAS).

Two weeks later, today

Moscow, May 27 (Prensa Latina) The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) articulated a doctrine of peace and justice, against the imperialist and interventionist policy of the United States in the region, said a diplomatic source here today.

...

During his presentation on the history of U.S. intervention in Venezuela, the diplomat stated that the organization of 33 nations now requires the U.S. to respect Latin America and other countries of the world, "you are free to make their own decisions".

Martinez noted how one of the current risks is the disregard some world powers have for the fundamental principles of international law. Respect for self-determination of peoples, international cooperation, and sovereignty are principles that are blatantly violated today and sometimes by bypassing the UN.

...

Martinez warned that one of the key instruments of the interference has to do with the media, media control, and the matrix of international opinion in some countries bent on opposing imperialist policies.

CELAC is an instrument of liberation, says Evo Morales
06.12.2011

Bolivian President, Evo Morales, said that the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) will be an instrument that will allow them to be free politically and economically from imperialism.

...

"There is one position, as in being free of imperialist domination. This is a profound theme. After 500 years of indigenous resistance, and 200 years of independence, finally we came together to liberate ourselves," he remarked.

Morales assured that in the new regional organization, without the presence of the United States, it will be possible to discuss how to tackle the energy, food and economic crises that devastate the countries of the region.

...

He stressed that the region has all the necessary wealth to consolidate itself as a power.

Morales also opined that the policy of CELAC is universal health and education, since it is a human right, not a private business.

Some here would label me as Anti-American for my support of CELAC.
Nothing could be farther from the truth.
I AM celebrating and supporting Democracy and Self-Determination.
At one time, the USA valued these qualities,
and enshrined them in our most sacred national Documents,
but those days are long gone,
Unless we find a way to revive them, we are on the road to ruin and collapse.

Our neighbors in Latin America have given us a Blue Print for this revival.
When the American Working Class and the Poor realize WE have more in common with each other
than we have in common with the RICH, ELITE Oligarchs running OUR country,
WE can have "change" too.

"The worst enemy of humanity is U.S. capitalism. That is what provokes uprisings like our own, a rebellion against a system, against a neoliberal model, which is the representation of a savage capitalism. If the entire world doesn't acknowledge this reality, that nation states are not providing even minimally for health, education and nourishment, then each day the most fundamental human rights are being violated."
----Bolivian Reform President Evo Morales

The above sounds very "radical" today, but it really isn't.
FDR said much the same thing with his Economic Bill of Rights in 1944.
So there is precedent for these values right here at home.
They resonate with the vast majority of Americans,
and can resonate again.

VIVA Democracy!
I pray we get some here soon.

DURec!

North America, Central America, South America are America and their people are Americans. It's time we started behaving as part of that inclusive group instead of reserving the pride of being "American" just for ourselves.

I don't see what's so radical about supporting CELAC. It seems more radical to not support it and continue on our destructive path, excluded from a bloc that's intent on taking care of its people first instead of taking care of corporate profit first.

OWS was a good start. It was proof enough people realize things must change. Once you've identified where the problem is, there's no turning back. I don't care how many false starts grass roots movements like that have, I'll support them all because you never now when the turning point is going to be.

Correa said made a very astute observation during a recent interview. They asked him if he was disappointed that they hadn't been able to work with Obama (that hope thing) and disappointed that nothing had changed in our policy towards Latin America under Obama. He said there was disappointment but that's they realized that unlike them, who could actually do things for their people with strong Presidential powers, US Presidents were elected to manage a system, not people.

And that system just keeps getting stronger with almost no brakes. Banks are out of control. Corporations telling us to stick it if we don't like it and writing laws to protect themselves and increase their profits. Wars everywhere. Coup d'Etats, meddling, refusing to recognize legitimate Presidents because they're not our corporate flavor, people being thrown out of their homes, critical medications and nutrients low in our hospitals for those who are lucky enough to afford that care, schools falling apart, .... Oh yeah,

"When the American Working Class and the Poor realize WE have more in common with each other
than we have in common with the RICH, ELITE Oligarchs running OUR country,
WE can have "change" too. "

The days are long, temperatures are very nice, and the air is cleaner. It's the perfect time to take a boat trip down the Moscow river and visit Gorky Park..
