Unesco Chief Condemns Killing Of Honduran Journalist

UNITED NATIONS, July 19 (BERNAMA-NNN-AGENCIES) -- A United Nations Director-General condemned the killing of Honduran journalist and broadcaster Anibal Barrow and called on the authorities to bring those responsible to justice.

Irina Bokova, chief of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), Thursday said in a statement, "I condemn this killing. Letting crimes against journalists go unpunished seriously undermines press freedom."

Barrow, former host of a popular morning talk show on Globo TV, was kidnapped on June 24 in the city of San Pedro Sula, Honduras as he was travelling by car with a driver and members of his family. His body was found on July 11.

Bokova said the crime "undermines freedom of expression in Honduras and journalists' ability to exercise their profession. Letting crimes against journalists go unpunished seriously undermines press freedom". She said Barrow is the 20th journalist to be killed in Honduras since 2010.

Journalists are among the victims of a wave of terror in Honduras since the June 29 coup.

Human rights based foreign policies.

If Obama had immediately imposed trade restrictions and other penalties, the coup would have been undone immediately. Instead, Obama has done NOTHING. He really doesn't seem to give a damn, or possibly even supports the coup.

One of my biggest disappointments with Obama is his continuation of the same policies towards Latin America that Bush and his minions supported.
