Uranium found at Opa-locka airport; surrounding area shut down
A 55-gallon drum of uranium was found Thursday in the area of a dismantled airplane at Opa-locka Executive Airport, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
The area has been evacuated while a hazmat team from Miami International Airport assess the situation as well as a possible spill.
Teams are monitoring levels of radiation, fire-rescue spokesman Arnold Piedrahita said Thursday afternoon on Twitter. So far, minimum levels have been detected, he said.
The Environmental Protection Agency has been contacted to release the scene for cleanup, he said.
The airport is at Northwest 142nd Street and 42nd Avenue.
This bulletin will be updated as more information becomes available.

(160,554 posts)Can't imagine what it's like spending your life trying to disrupt communications among progressives at their own message board.
Must be as productive as walking up the down escalator.

(6,837 posts)this news belongs in LBN or Florida, its not that important, but it doesn't belong here. Of course I understand that progressive to you means any government opposed to the US. I am sure you are very fond of the progressive governments in Iran and N. Korea just like your rotting hero was.

Not a great reason to offer comments, if you don't know anything about it.

(160,554 posts)and his nasty cabal of hermanos who fly down over Havana, scaring the holy bejesus out of citizens who tend to think they're being invaded for real this time, each time it happens.
I wonder if they even know how many times they've taken off from that place on their acts of terrorism against Cubans.
What a bunch of creeps and a-holes.
I would think the guys who were captured in Cuba with all their military gear and put on TV probably left from Opa Locka, too.
Now this material surfaces. Who's surprised?
I remember also that Lazaro Gonzalez was told to take Elian there, wasn't he, in order to comply with the court order so the child could be returned to his father? He blew that off, and set in motion the need for the US Gov't to go in there to Little Havana and get him back for Juan Miguel.
On edit:
If you hear who is ultimately behind this, please don't hesitate to let us know. This is really creepy information from the town which was named the "Murder Capital of the U.S." by the FBI.

No one will touch Jose Basulto, former CIA, or his scummy accomplices, he's their darling.
He endeared himself to Cubans back when he made his bombing raids on them, even flying low to strafe trains. What a hero.
