The 60-year-old head of state must now rest for 30 days, leaving vice-president Amado Boudo in charge

Argentine president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has been discharged from hospital after successful surgery to remove blood from her brain.

Doctors have told the 60-year-old to take 30 days of rest, during which time her health will continue to be closely monitored.

Government spokesman Alfredo Scoccimarro said: "The medical team attending the president has decided to discharge her.

"She's still in an excellent mood and still in an ongoing recovery, and sends a big kiss and lots of affection to all those who have prayed for her here and in the world."
