Forty Iowa National Guard troops return today from Honduras deployment

Forty soldiers with an Iowa Army National Guard unit are returning to Des Moines today from a deployment to Honduras.

The troops are members of the 186th Military Police Company, based at Camp Dodge. They were mobilized last December and initially went to training at Fort Bliss, Texas.

While in Honduras, the company partnered with the Honduran Security Forces to provide base defense, distinguished visitor protection, and responded to several incidents, including disturbances, bomb threats, and drug trafficking, said Col. Gregory Hapgood Jr., the Iowa National Guard’s public affairs officer. They also conducted several personnel recovery exercises and training events with U.S. Special Forces and Honduran Security Forces, he said.

The 186th Military Police Company was previously mobilized for Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2007-08 and 2003-04, for Operation Joint Endeavor in the Balkans in 1996, and Operations Desert Storm/Desert Shield in 1990-91.
