Join a literacy brigade to El Salvador-deadline May 1
Literacy Brigade
June 23 July 15
The new Ministry of Education, headed by Vice President and long-time FMLN leader Salvador Sánchez Cerén, has launched a national campaign to reduce illiteracy by four percent by 2014. The government is well on its way, thanks to the help of over 14,000 volunteers, mostly college students, who are teaching their neighbors to read and write in local literacy circles. Over 100,000 people, mostly older adults, graduated from this program in its first two years!
The Ministry of Education has called for international support for this program and CISPES is mobilizing volunteers to help recruit people to join a literacy circle in their community. If you want to make a concrete contribution to the peoples liberation through education, please join us this summer!
