Related: About this forumProminent Venezuelan opposition leader to challenge her ouster from the National Assembly (Machado)
I heard this yesterday on the radio. Found the audio in the PRI archives today ...
A prominent Venezuelan opposition leader has vowed to challenge her ouster from the National Assembly (Maria Corina Machado)
When Machado went to speak to the Organization of American States she was not given time to speak. But Panama, Ciccariello-Maher says, has taken a sort of anti-Chavez line and offered her temporarily its seat.
"The argument of the head of the National Assembly is that in so doing, Machado became temporarily the representative of another country which is forbidden by Venezuelan law for parliamentarians, and this is something that was upheld by the Supreme Court in Venezuela," Ciccariello-Maher says.

Clearly she broke the law. She knew it, but expected her fellow pigs to make a lot of noise

(6,837 posts)1. nah, they wanted an excuse to get rid of her just like Lopez
funny how the constitution only is interpreted to benefit the ruling party isn't it?

about it, chew the scenery about it all over again, and score some points for the ugly, greedy, amoral oligarchs.

(128 posts)4. Here's the article of the constitution they say she violated
Article 191: Deputies of the National Assembly shall not be permitted to accept or hold public employment positions without giving up their investiture, except in teaching, academic, temporary and caregiving positions, and provided the employment is not intended to be full-time.
I think one could easily argue that her position given by Panama was temporary and not intended to be full-time.

...to gain support for the thugs and rioters who were acting for her back home. She is a traitor to Venezuela much like her fellow-traveler Alvaro Uribe is to Colombia. I hope this is the 'last hurrah' for these merchants of death. We've seen enough horrors from them and their kind in Latin America. And we can only be appalled by U.S. government support for these evildoers. It tells us plenty about our own government and our corporate/military rulers.
