About 200,000 kilograms of food found buried in Venezuela

Approximately 200,000 kilograms of food were found buried in a farm located in Guárico state, central Venezuela.

Deputy for opposition Acción Democrática (AD) party at the National Assembly (AN), Carlos Prosperi, reported that workers of "La Tempestad," a farm expropriated by the local government some years ago, noted incoming trucks loaded with food that was disposed in pits and movement of machines on site.

"According to witnesses, they buried a load of chicken, plus more than 1,500 kilos of beans. We cannot understand why they buried it because the expiry date is December of this current year and more than 50,000 kilos of pasta belong to (government-run) network Mercal," Prosperi said.

The deputy also claimed that workers were refused access to the farm with their cell phones and that they were warned against information leak. "Yesterday (Wednesday), we appear at ‘La Tempestad.' We were not allowed to enter. The farm is shut down. Ten days ago, access was free as it was abandoned."
