Dems head to Cuba to explore 'greater cooperation'
Jan. 16, 2015 9.26am Pete Kasperowicz
Several House and Senate Democrats will travel to Cuba this weekend in order to discuss ways to enhance the U.S.-Cuba relationship, just hours after the Obama administration formally eased some trade and travel rules.
Sen. Pat Leahy (D-Vt.) is heading the delegation Leahy was the one who arranged for sperm from a Cuban spy that the U.S. was holding to be exported to Panama to impregnate the spys wife. That spy was later released in a controversial deal that allowed the return of one U.S. intelligence agent from Cuba, plus Alan Gross, who was held for five years in Cuba.
Sens. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) will also be on the trip, as will Reps. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) and Peter Welch (D-Vt.).
We want to explore opportunities for greater cooperation, Leahy said Friday.
We have all been to Cuba before, and we strongly support the Presidents new direction for our policy toward Cuba, Leahy said. We are going this time to discuss our expectations, and the Cubans expectations, for the normalization of relations.

Did you read the Granma op/ed I posted in this forum? Hits the nail on the head regarding the hypocritical "explore opportunities for greater cooperation" propaganda coming out of the US's single party membership.

More salient than ever ...
The Breckenridge Memorandum

When this moment arrives, we must create conflicts for the independent government. That government will be faced with these difficulties, in addition to the lack of means to meet our demands and the commitments made to us, war expenses and the need to organize a new country. These difficulties must coincide with the unrest and violence among the aforementioned elements, to whom we must give our backing.
To sum up, our policy must always be to support the weaker against the stronger, until we have obtained the extermination of them both, in order to annex the Pearl of the Antilles {Cuba}

Glad you pointed this part out. I always have focused right on the one spot I mentioned, and I needed to see this again.
Thanks for the link to Progresso. Anyone who has known about the people there knows they have suffered mightily for their beliefs in justice. I need to visit that link often. They are valuable.
