New details in failed Venezuelan coup

New details in failed Venezuelan coup
By Staff Writers, teleSUR
Sunday, Feb 15, 2015

In a televised broadcast featuring President of the National Assembly Diosdado Cabello along with the Caracas Municipal City Mayor Jorge Rodríguez, revealed further details regarding the failed coup attempt, which lead to the arrest of several military officers as well as confessions linking political opposition leaders to the plot.

Rodriguez pointed out that Julio Borges, President of the right-wing Justice First party, has been implicated as one of the key masterminds behind the plot, adding that this had been confirmed through the confession of various individuals involved in the plans to topple the democratically-elected government of President Nicolas Maduro.

"Many of the individuals being charged, included a military general - who has confessed to participating in the plans- and a retired lieutenant colonel - have indicated you [Julio Borges] as being a key participant in meetings, which resulted in the decision to carry out a series of bombing attacks as a part of the coup, targeting the Presidential Palace, the National Assembly, and the teleSUR offices.”

Venezuelan authorities have identified a list of individuals U.S. from the United States embassy in Caracas who provided visas to the individuals involved in the attempt, Cabello stated during the televised broadcast.

And the story they made up about it sounded inconsistent, as if they were making it up as they went along.

Also, this:

Venezuela Annual Inflation
2009-> 25,1%
2010-> 27,2%
2011-> 27,6%
2012-> 20,1%
2013-> 56,2%
2014-> 68,5% World Average ->2%

I am sure the military is not happy to see themselves and their families being dragged back down into poverty. There is a reason Chavez created a militia outside of the military chain of command that answers only to the president.

8. The oil was nationalized back in the 70s

And the US still keeps receiving Venezuelan oil without problems. In fact, the US is Venezuela's #1 client. if Chavisno hates the U.S. so much, the first thing they'd do is stop selling them oil. I think it's also worth mentioning that a lot of food products and goods that Venezuela imports come from the U.S., at least a third of them.

Factbox: Venezuela's nationalizations under Chavez
Sun Oct 7, 2012 10:49pm EDT

~ snip ~

Below are the main nationalizations under Chavez:

OIL

* In 2007, Chavez's government took a majority stake in four oil projects in the vast Orinoco heavy crude belt worth an estimated $30 billion in total.

Exxon Mobil Corp and ConocoPhillips quit the country as a result and filed arbitration claims. Late last year, an arbitration panel ordered Venezuela to pay Exxon $908 million, though a larger case is still ongoing.

France's Total SA and Norway's StatoilHydro ASA received about $1 billion in compensation after reducing their holdings. Britain's BP Plc and America's Chevron Corp remained as minority partners.

* In 2008, Chavez's administration implemented a windfall tax of 50 percent for prices over $70 per barrel, and 60 percent on oil over $100. Oil reached $147 that year, but soon slumped.

* In 2009, Chavez seized a major gas injection project belonging to Williams Cos Inc and a range of assets from local service companies. This year, the energy minister said the government would pay $420 million to Williams and one of its U.S. partners, Exterran Holdings, for the takeover.

* In June 2010, the government seized 11 oil rigs from Oklahoma-based Helmerich & Payne Inc.
