Last weeks decision by a federal judge that the Department of Homeland Security couldnt continue its blanket policy of classifying women and children from Central America seeking asylum as national security threats and hold them without bond doesnt apply to everyone being held in the Karnes County detention center, an immigration attorney said at a rally Wednesday.
The ruling wont apply to indigenous women who dont speak Spanish and often cant make their asylum claims, women who turn themselves in at an international bridge rather than illegally crossing the border and women who have been deported, said immigration attorney Virginia Raymond.
Raymond spoke at a rally at San Fernando Cathedral attended by about 15 activists, including Bexar County Democratic Party Chair Manuel Medina and perennial Libertarian candidate Rhett Smith.

The rally was interrupted by a man who confronted Medina, telling him, Due process is just for Americans.
