Latin America: Summit condemns US anti-Cuba laws

A LATIN AMERICA-Europe conference has condemned US legislation which still puts obstacles in the way of trade with Cuba.

The summit between the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) and the European Union ended in Brussels late on Thursday.

The summit’s final declaration states that the provisions included in the 1996 Helms-Burton Act have caused humanitarian damage to the Cuban people and affected the development of economic relations among the Caribbean nations, the EU and other countries.

A summit declaration also criticised the US government’s unilateral aggression against Venezuela, which President Barack Obama declared a threat to national security in January.
