Venezuelans Mark Year Anniversary of Lawmaker's Murder

Robert Serra is remembered as an example for Venezuela’s youth.

The Venezuelan National Assembly commemorated the life of late lawmaker Robert Serra on Thursday, with a special session led by Minister Hector Rodriguez, who was close to Serra and together led the Youth Movement of the governing Unified Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).

Serra, the youngest lawmaker in parliament, was killed last year by men linked to paramilitary groups in Colombia, in what was considered a politically motivated assassination.

While the National Assembly held a special session, dozens of youth organizations took to the streets of Caracas to remember Serra, with a march that extended from Morelos Plaza to Mexico Avenue in the heart of the city.

Student groups, political movements and other activists from all over the country joined the march remembering the young lawmaker.

It was a passionate crime, Serra dealt with some really sketchy people. And he and the other PSUV a-holes want to make it seem like the opposition was behind it, even though formal investigations have given NO results whatsoever that there were any paramilitary ties to the murder.

and was murdered by his own body guards. Judi seems to like him though.

Caracas, October 1, 2015 (venezuelanalysis.com) – Thousands took to the streets of the Venezuelan capital on Thursday, braving severe heat and humidity to commemorate the life of the slain 27 year-old socialist parliamentarian Robert Serra on the one year anniversary of his assassination.

Serra was murdered together with his comrade Maria Herrera in their Caracas residence on the night of October 1, 2014 in a conspiracy allegedly involving several police officers and his chief bodyguard.

Organized by the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) and diverse grassroots collectives, the youth-led march began at the National University of the Arts in downtown Caracas, continuing on amid lively chanting and dancing to the country’s National Assembly.

“Today we are paying tribute to Robert Serra, a comrade in the struggle who beyond his words showed in his deeds, his praxis, what it means to be a revolutionary,” explained Alexander Bustillos of the Ciudad Caribia-based Lautaro collective.

Venezuelan 'Chavista' lawmaker Serra stabbed, killed at home

Robert Serra, a young "Chavista" ruling party lawmaker, died after being stabbed in his home in Caracas in an "intentional homicide," government officials said, in Venezuela's latest high-profile violent crime.

Serra, 27, and Maria Herrera - whom officials said was Serra's companion - were killed at his residence in the impoverished La Pastora neighborhood of the Venezuelan capital. The victims died of hemorrhagic shock after they were stabbed with a "sharp, penetrating weapon," Interior and Justice Minister Miguel Rodriguez Torres said.

"This is not a random incident committed by common criminals, this is an intentional homicide, planned and executed with great precision," Rodriguez Torres said.

Government officials described Herrera Thursday as Serra's "companion" after saying she was his romantic partner. The nature of their relationship couldn't immediately be verified.

Torres urged the political opposition to refrain from turning Serra's death into a "media circus."

One of the youngest members of the National Assembly, Serra was a lawyer with a Master's Degree in criminology, media reports said. He was an avowed 'Chavista' - a supporter of the left-wing political ideology of the country's late former president, Hugo Chavez. He rose to prominence as a student leader and was seen as one of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela's (PSUV) most promising young leaders.
